FROM THE ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS

Grade 6 Camp

A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to attend the Grade 6 Canberra camp. What an awesome way to see our Nation’s Capital and experience all the fun, mateship and laughter of school camp. The Grade 6 students were a credit to Ringwood North, and I was so proud to be with them as they represented the school at places such as Parliament House, the National War Memorial and the National Gallery. A highlight for the students was the Australian Institute of Sport, giving the students and teacher a chance to check out the magnificent facilities, as well as having a go at some sporting events themselves. Questacon was another big hit, and is somewhere many students said they would like to visit again.

Congratulations to Mr Allen, Miss Adkins, Miss Sedgwick, Mrs Morris as well as our pre-service teachers and support staff who attended. Organising camps, especially interstate ones is a mammoth task, but so worthwhile, especially with such an awesome group of students!

ICAS Maths Competition

Congratulations to the following students who participated in the University of New South Wales ICAS Mathematics competition. It is so wonderful to see so many students challenging themselves, and achieving such great results. There are more results to come, and I look forward to sharing those at assembly in a few weeks time.

Grade 3 Camp

It was so fantastic to be able to visit and share in some of the excitement of Year 3 camp over the last few days. The Year 3 team have been enjoying the adventure and spectacular surrounds of Gundiwindi Lodge in Wandin. Although the weather was a little wet and wild at times, the students were thoroughly enjoying the activities and time spent hanging out with friends. I'm sure the students will love sharing their stories and experiences with their families. Congratulations to the Year 3 team for organising such an awesome opportunity for the students!

2019 Buddies

There was so much excitement in the air on Wednesday when our Grade 5 students finally got to meet their new Prep buddies for 2019, and what better way to celebrate such a special occasion than a sausage sizzle!  I was incredibly proud to stand back and watch our Grade 5 students take their buddies down to greet their parents and introduce themselves in such a mature and welcoming manner. It was great to see so many smiling and happy faces.  Throughout next year our new Grade 6 and Prep students undertake a variety of activities including literacy, numeracy, sports, art and craft and games.  It really is amazing to watch the special bond of friendship develop and how our students grow into this new leadership role.   I spoke with two of our current Grade 6 students about what they enjoyed most about working with their buddies this year and here is what they had to say.

‘It’s been really nice to revisit the prep classrooms during the year.  It brings back lots of fond memories and I’ve really enjoyed spending time with younger children and taking on the responsibility of being a buddy.’ - Scarlett 6A

‘I’ve really enjoyed having my buddies this year.  My favourite thing was spending time doing arts and craft activities.  It gave me the time to bond with my buddy and help them out in their first year of school.’ - Annabelle 6A

Grade 1 Dinner

Last Wednesday our hall was transformed into a fine dining restaurant for the annual Grade 1 Dinner.  It was great to see students all dressed up for the special occasion in their shirts, ties, vests and ball gowns. Even Mr Wright looked absolutely dapper in his navy blue suit!  Delicious pizza was on the menu followed by yummy ice-cream for dessert. A big thank you to all the Grade 1 parents that helped out on the evening.
