From the Deputy Principal

Thank you for the warm welcome back
I would like to thank all in the community for the very warm welcome back to St Gabriel's School. Whilst I will only be here for Term 1, I look forward to continuing working with you and your children.
Community Group
This year we will host a welcome meeting on Thursday 13 of March in the Community Room straight after drop off. This will also be the meeting that we will organise the Bingo Night for March 13. All members of the school community are welcome, younger children can come too. Please join us for a cuppa and morning tea.
Sacramental Program
The Sacramental Program is a parish based program that prepares baptised children for their Sacramental Journey (First Reconciliation, Confirmation and First Holy Communion). Wednesday 12th of February will be our information night for the Sacramental Program at St Brigid's School. Students will then be expected to attend every session of the program. If you are interested in your child participating in the program, please contact Shannon Correll for the enrolment form.
Mass
Beginning of the Year Mass will be held on Friday 7th of February at the Church of the Good Shepherd 10.00a.m. Students will walk to the Church with their buddies and class teacher. If we have inclement weather, alternative arrangements will be made. Parents, Grandparents and the school community are welcome to attend.
Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday
Shrove Tuesday, Tuesday 25 February, is a day preceding Ash Wednesday (the first day of Lent), which is celebrated before the fasting period of Lent. The expression Shrove Tuesday comes from the word shrive, meaning absolve. Shrove Tuesday is observed by many, who make a special point of self-examination, of considering what wrongs they need to repent, and what amendments of life or areas of spiritual growth they especially need to ask God’s help in dealing with. This year our students will be making their own pancake mixture in the classroom. They will then be cooked by Mr Hill and Mrs Correll on Shrove Tuesday morning.
Ash Wednesday is one of the most popular and important holy days in the liturgical calendar. Ash Wednesday opens Lent, a season of fasting and prayer. Ash Wednesday takes place 46 days before Easter Sunday, and is chiefly observed by Catholics, although many other Christians observe it too.
Ash Wednesday comes from the ancient Jewish tradition of penance and fasting. The practice includes the wearing of ashes on the head. The ashes symbolize the dust from which God made us. All students will participate in our Ash Wednesday Ceremony on Wednesday 26th of February at 11.00a.m. We will celebrate Mass at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 7 St Albans Place, Clearview.
