Have your say on the Burke Ward Public School Health Profile!
As part of my role as the Primary Health Care Registered Nurse at Burke Ward Public School, I am undertaking a School Health Profile and I would like to hear what you think are the health care needs of the school. The results of the School Health Profile will help identify the health needs of your school so that health education and service delivery can be tailored to meet these needs.

Building Healthy bones for life!
As childhood is the major opportunity to build strong bones for life, it is important for growing kids to get enough calcium, vitamin D and exercise.
Here are some tips to ensure growing kids build healthy bones:
A calcium rich diet.
A calcium-rich diet helps maximises peak bone mass and reduces the risk of fractures and osteoporosis in later life. Milk, cheese and yoghurt are best known for calcium but there are also non-dairy foods such as alternative milks, beans, lentils and certain leafy greens that are also sources of calcium. Calcium helps bones harden and become strong!
Being active!
Bones grow stronger and harder when they are being exercised, so having growing kids running and jumping is not only fun for them but also good for their bones. Just remember to wear the right equipment, like a helmet, and protective gear when playing sports or bike riding, as this will help protect bones!
Getting enough Vitamin D.
Vitamin D is essential for building healthy, strong bones. Vitamin D is best absorbed from safe sun exposure and children only need a small amount of time outside to gain enough Vitamin D, so ensure your child has the correct sun protection when outside.
