Building Emotional Resilience
Our PD this Friday reminded me a lot of LFE, Leading For Equity, a retreat I attended with our lead team about 4 years ago near Oakland. The work was good and insightful and made me reflect on my own privilege and also my biases. A majority of the time was spent on reflecting and sharing with our groups. Even though the work felt uncomfortable I left feeling uplifted and understood.
This is the type of work we need to do on a regular basis. We have only started but I know once we continue we will be even more aware of our dispositions and ultimately our why. This will help us build a community of strong and resilient educators!
Identifying and talking about emotions helps us build the resilience we need to bounce back from our daily stressors. Understanding emotions is foundational to cultivating resilience. As we go into a new week think about the things that bring up emotions and think of how you reacted to them.
"Resilience allows us to listen to students and their families and take in painful information, because resilience ensure that we keep our hearts open to what we see and hear. Resilience makes us confident in our ability to manage our own, and others' intense emotions." -Elena Aguilar
