Secondary students participated in a number of House activities on National Health and Physical Education Day, September 2019.
The last two weeks have been jam packed with activity in the Secondary School. Students have been involved in a multitude of activities including; the ACC Inter-School Athletics Carnival, the Secondary House Music Eisteddfod, National Health and Physical Education Day, the JWACS Art Exhibition, the House Shout and our inaugural Colour Explosion fun run. These events have been on top of the normal teaching and learning program that goes on in the school term.
This does raise the question ‘Can we do everything well?’ When I ponder this question, I am reminded of the old adage “If you want something done well, ask a busy person to do it”. Developing knowledge and skills does not just happen in the classroom during formal lessons. Our co-curricular events and activities make up the broad-based education that we provide for students at John Wollaston. These opportunities allow students to develop important character traits and to increase their sense of belonging while contributing to their school community. I regularly encourage students to fully embrace all the opportunities that our school provides.
During Week 10, Year 10 students and several staff will head down to the beautiful south west region to hike a part of the Cape to Cape track, participating in a range of outdoor activities. This Encounter is certainly a highlight for our students and I wish them all the best for the exciting week ahead.
All the best.

An invitation was extended to 2019 Pegasus Society, Years 8 to 10 members who wished to attend the ECU Cyber Conference on Saturday 14 September 2019. Two Year 8 students travelled to ECU in Joondalup where they took part in workshops and heard from former Young Australian of the Year finalist and CEO of zero2hero, Ashlee Harrison and young entrepreneur, Kai Lovel.
Yesterday’s workshop at ECU was an incredible experience and encompassed much more than the cyber aspect I was expecting. I especially enjoyed Kai’s presentation about going forward in life with purpose. It is his belief that there are three ingredients to living purposefully; passion, to be passionate about things; gifts, to use the strengths that you have and values. If you combine these three you will be successful at living with purpose. This concept resonated with me and I will continue to strive for this.
We engaged in a number of fun activities like Capture the Flag and Kahoot. The computer labs at ECU are incredible! The first presenter was Ashlee, the founder of zero2hero and she talked about the importance of real relationships. She showed us a video of an incredibly adorable baby laughing as her dog ate bubbles. Ashlee asked if we had a friend in our lives who made us laugh this hard, and if we did, we should keep them in our lives forever. My only regret is that I didn’t get to share the experience with more of my peers but I am very thankful for the opportunity.

The purpose of a School Council Bursary is twofold. Firstly, to offer financial assistance to an existing school family who supports the values of John Wollaston Anglican Community School and secondly, to provide educational opportunities for an appropriately qualified student who would not otherwise be able to remain at the School for financial or family reasons.
School Council will offer up to six (6) bursaries for 2020. Bursaries are available to current students entering Years 5 and 6, and Years 7 to 12 in 2020. School Council reserves the right to vary the number of bursaries at any time.
