From the Principal

Many of you may have seen photographs on our Facebook page last week of the inaugural performance of Generation Joy, the intergenerational choir comprised of John Wollaston Primary students and residents from Thomas Scott Hostel, performing at the national Anglicare Conference in Perth. I was fortunate to be present and was very touched by the enthusiasm of the choristers and their delight in singing together. Judging by their animated faces, it was clear that the children and the residents had made personal connections and were enjoying each other's company. There was warm applause with many in the audience singing a long with the choir. The CEO of Amana Living Stephanie Buckland and I have spoken about further opportunities for our two organisations to work together which are likely to include performances by the choir. At the very least, I hope the choir is able to perform at the School before the end of the year. I would like to thank Senior Deputy Head of Primary, Fiona Shand and Primary Music Specialist, Hollie Burbage for their fine work in bringing this special project to fruition.

The intergenerational theme has continued this week with Grandparents' Day celebrations held this morning in the Berry Durston Indoor Sports Centre. A large crowd was in attendance for the whole school assembly, the highlight of which was the House Shout based on songs from 1989, the foundation year of the School. Guests counted among their number several great grandparents, some of whom have been attending this event for a number of years. Students of all ages were proud to  welcome their grandparents to our school and spend the morning with them. Thank you to Mrs Anne Edman, the honorary grandmother of the morning, who joined me to judge the House Shout. Each of the Houses performed with enthusiasm but Charter House and Hale House emerged triumphant with an entertaining interpretation of their songs Leave A Light On by Belinda Carlisle and Simply the Best by Tina Turner.

To conclude today, the Prefects led the Colour Explosion, a fun event to raise money to air-condition the Library which saw the students from Pre-Primary to Year 12 negotiate a running course whilst being dowsed at various stations by coloured powder. I have been assured by the company which supplied the School with materials for the event, that the powder will wash off skin and clothing with ease. Thank you to Amanda Barrett Community Engagement Coordinator, Nick Jones Deputy Principal Pastoral Care and the Prefects for organising this fun- filled event.

With good wishes.

School Council Bursaries for 2020

The purpose of a School Council Bursary is twofold. School Council will offer up to six (6) bursaries for 2020. Bursaries are available to current students entering Years 5 and 6, and Years 7 to 12 in 2020. School Council reserves the right to vary the number of bursaries at any time.
