Leadership Report

As part of Edenhope College’s Annual Implementation Plan (AIP), each year goals are selected to help direct our whole school focus on school improvement. Every school has different goals and one of ours has been to strengthen our student wellbeing focus. School Wide Positive Behavioural Support (SWPBS for short), is part of that focus and Edenhope College is working towards the following goal - to foster a safe and supportive environment and a culture that promotes respectful relationships, resilience, values diversity and is inclusive.

The recent roll out of SWPBS to students has seen the introduction of the Roo Reward system where students receive positive reinforcement for either conducting themselves in a safe manner, showing a willingness to learn or doing respectful acts.  Every fortnight a senior student, a primary student and a teacher will be drawn out and receive a prize. This fortnight’s prize is lunch at the coffee shop. The winning teacher takes the students up for lunch (parents contacted for consent). It’s aimed at building a culture of respect & has started strongly. Well done to Josh Kouroupakis, Declan Joubert & Miss Shuttleworth who won the 1st Roo Rewards draw.  I feel it is my duty of care to accompany them (at my cost), to make sure they get to the coffee shop & back safely.

Staff Update

Our IT staff member Varlin Duncan is getting treatment & recovering with his family in Darwin. Varlin has pencilled in Term 3 (midterm) as his likely return date. Staff and students are contacting him regularly, and he sends his regards to all in the school community. In the meantime, we are using Horsham based IT staff to assist with our IT needs. We haven’t had many IT issues because of the quality of work Varlin has put into our school network.

Pictured below is Kelvin Williams, the new groundsman. He's been hard at work since starting at the College and one of his many projects has been to hang up the artwork the primary students created on Harmony Day.

A new face to our staff room is Kathryn Close. She has been with us before in a student placement with Kathryn Duncan’s class in 2018 , and we are extremely happy to see her return. Kathryn Close teaches PE, Health in the senior & primary areas, but also has a strong generalist focus in the primary area.

Congratulations to Emma Wallace who has recently been appointed as the Acting Assistant Principal at the College.

Student Engagement

This week is ‘Book Week’ and knowing Ms Austin it will be very engaging in the library area. A timely reminder to parents to keep encouraging and listening to your children read whenever you get the chance. It is one of the strongest links to building confidence in your child and shouldn’t be underestimated. Plus in our time poor worlds,  it gives us that 10-15 minute quality one on one with our kids. This also supports our other school goal of student reading comprehension.
