Basketball

The basketball season has kicked off with a bang, with a total of eight teams representing Mount Alvernia this year!  This comprises an Open team, two Senior, two Intermediate, and three Junior teams, making this one of basketball’s most popular years yet.  Having only competed in two rounds of the CaSSSA competition so far, we are optimistic that the wins will keep coming in, and we are incredibly proud of the efforts of all the girls over the past two weeks, and hoping it continues into the rest of the season.

The results for the first tworound of CaSSSA are as follows:

Opens: Loss 33-36; Win 42-25

Senior A: Win 26-16; Bye

Senior B: Loss 16-35; Win 40-24

Intermediate A: Loss 10-44; Loss 16-53

Intermediate B: Win 65-13;  Win 34-14

Junior A: Loss 0-80; Loss 14-61

Junior B: Loss 15-40; Loss 10-31

Junior C: Loss 68-16; Draw 29-29

Next week the Open Team will be competing in the Champion Basketball School of Queensland (CBSQ) tournament from Thursday 19 to Sunday 22 September.  This tournament is held in September every year, and this will be the third consecutive year Mount Alvernia has competed.  Playing at least two games each day will ensure our girls are worked to the max, but they will no doubt enjoy and cherish the experience.  They compete against other school basketball teams from around the state, and we  wish them the best of luck for this competition.

We once again congratulate all the basketball players on their efforts so far.  Keep going girls - keep striving and thriving.
