Sport Captain

As Trimester 3 is now in full swing, we are seeing many girls getting out onto both the field and court to participate in what is the last opportunity to be involved in sport at the College in 2019.  We are currently in the second week of Trimester 3 sport, with Junior Netball, Intermediate and Senior Touch Football, and Basketball for all year levels.

These will be put on pause over the holidays; however, it is fantastic to see so many girls committing to their teams as they approach the most important and stressful time of the year - Term 3 exam block.  I love seeing all the enthusiastic girls on a Wednesday afternoon as they head off to have fun with friends and represent Mount Alvernia in true 'sportswomanship'.

As we know, sport reduces both stress and depression and, as we reach the time of the year where assignments and exams are mounting up, stress is common.  A study from Healthline states, “When you are physically active, your mind is distracted from daily stressors”.  By actively distracting your brain for even an hour or two, you immediately feel the stress relief and the weight lift from your shoulders.  This is why we promote participation in sport, especially at this time of the year, so we can have our students achieving well both on and off the field or court.

I would like to wish all the girls participating in Trimester 3 sports the best of luck and commend them for including physical activity in their day-to-day life.
