From the Sport Development Leader

With one week to go until the next break, I start to imagine the possibilities of what I could do with this extra time.  For me I have been a lifelong participant in an active lifestyle.  I grew up in a small town in New Zealand where everyone just went and played.  Some played for fun and some played for friends and enjoyment.   However, the fact that we all enjoyed sport together is probably why most of us are still active today.   We may be off the field longer than on the field these days; the fountain of youth has escaped our legs, leaving a torn muscle a regular occurrence, but it's set in us to stay active, and to seek that release and belonging that sport has ingrained in us from a young age.

Ingraining sport and promoting an active lifestyle into students at this age is a privilege to do; working in a place where we offer over eighteen different sports to try and ignite the passion is special.  To see so many students take this up brings smiles to our faces.

We have worked hard this year on providing both participation and competitive sporting teams.  We get that not everybody wants to win a cup and, while our competitive teams are out there doing just that, we have a great group of students who are playing for the love of sport and friendship.  It is important that we marry the right coach up to these teams, who has the same focus, where enjoyment overrides results - this is how the love of sport can develop without any pressure to perform.

We have many opportunities to come and try different things - Monday afternoon sport, Social Rock Climbing, and Bootcamps.  We have seen an increase in our CaSSSA Teams from participating in these programs, which is great.

There is always something here on offer for the students.  Ask your daughter to keep an eye on Notices and noticeboards, and we hope to help her on her way to a lifelong love of active living.
