School Review

Our school review began on Wednesday and there will be three more days when the core review team will be working in our school.  The purpose of a review is to evaluate the four year Strategic Plan (available on our website) and set direction for the following Strategic Plan with clear goals based on the needs of the school.

The core review team includes our School Council President, Mrs Kirsty White, Ms  Glenda Harry and Mrs Gayle Cope who are well respected principals in our network, our Senior Education Improvement Leader, Mr Clayton Sturzaker and the reviewer, Mr Branko Lukic .   They will join me in the 'hot seat' and I'll be well supported by our assistant principal and learning specialist.

The team will also be observing students and teachers in the classroom to ensure that what has been stated is happening in practice.  At the end of the review the Reviewer will write a report on the school that will be available to you all via our website.  The reviewer may request to speak with parent groups as well so stay tuned!  Thanks to everyone for all of your input through the surveys and meetings that we have had.

Chooks

Unfortunately I had to give you some ‘not so nice’ news via Flexibuzz last week about our girls.  We lost all of our chooks to a fox on a weekend.  This has never happened in our ten years of having them so I guess suburban foxes are becoming very cunning.  We did narrow the time period down to between 4pm when a teacher visited and the automatic door closes at 5.30pm at the moment.  Such a short amount of time.

Today I have secured the wire on the bottom of the cage and we have had six new girls delivered.  The suppliers have said that a fox can leap over our existing fence (WOW!).  We are going to keep them locked away for awhile and the suppliers are happy for us, due to the generous cage size, to keep them locked up over the weekend.  We will just let the girls out while we are at school to try and avoid fox activity.

So…. the chook roster is back on!  If you are walking through our school please stroll past Chookingham Palace and check out the girls.

Principal Conference

This week, I am attending the Riversdale Principal Network Conference. The conference is held each year with the 22 schools in our network.  The key note speaker is Dr Paul Browning who wrote the book, Compelling Leadership.  This should be interesting.  In my absence on Thursday and Friday Mrs Arya will be in charge should you need her.

Year 6-7 Transition

Parents of Year 6 students attending government and private schools have now received their placement offer letters for Year 7, 2020. If you have any questions about this process please contact Ms McLaren, our Year 6 to 7 Transition Coordinator.  I would like to thank Ms McLaren for the wonderful work she has done coordinating the process and along with Mr Keeghan preparing our Year 6 students for their transition to Year 7.  The transition process will continue throughout terms 3 and 4.

Celebrating Book: 19 – 23 August 2019

This week we have been celebrating our love of books and reading.  Students have been exposed to a variety of books and activities in their classroom to support their reading enjoyment.  The week began with our book character dress up day and parade.  It was fabulous to see that nearly all of the school was dressed up. On Tuesday the whole school watched a professional performance of Cinderella.  It was great timing with our upcoming whole school production.

A few reminders:

  • The Fathers Day stall is on Friday 30 August so thanks to the PFA for organising and look out for information from the PFA
  • There was a joint effort between the PFA and the Lions Club to ensure that Weeden Heights has a defibrillator.  We will be receiving a special plaque to mount above the machine.  A massive thanks for the fundraising efforts of the PFA and the most generous donation of the Lion’s Club
  • Good luck next Wednesday to our representative at the Rotary Club Speech Night!

Until next time,

Ms Kylie Campbell
