Junior School and Iceland!
What do Iceland and the Junior School have in common? Iceland is a small country of 335 000 people. They have just qualified for the football World Cup in Russia. The Junior School (population 105) have just had a team compete in the Victorian Primary Schools’ Chess competition for the third straight year, and finished a creditable 22nd out of 400 competing schools. We have similarities with Iceland in terms of ‘punching well above our weight’ on the big stage. Congratulations to Tobe Adamson, Stirling Cuming, Charlie Beggs, Jake Tonissen and Nick Hoskyns on their fabulous efforts last Wednesday in Melbourne at the State Chess Finals. Thank you to the parents who transported the students

Western District Schools' Spelling Competition 2017
Last week, on Thursday the 26th of October, was the Western District School’s Spelling Competition. It was held at Warrnambool Primary school. Students from Years Four to Six competed. Our team was made up of Sophie Merrin, Zoe Weinberg, Samuel Lees, Charlotte Millear and Nicholas Northeast. It was very nerve wracking and my legs weren’t really working properly as I walked up the steps to complete the written test with the other Year Four students. The words in the test were quite tricky and I felt relieved once it was done. Only two or three students from each year level went through to the final oral section where you stand on stage and spell ten words in to a microphone. Zoe was one of the finalists for Year Five and she did a great job on stage. The words she was given were really challenging, for example; guarantee and chauffeur. Zoe was runner up for Year Five girls. It was a great experience and I encourage other people to give it a go next year.
Sophie Merrin, Year Four.
Year 1/2 Camp
Last week saw our Year 1/2 students travel to the Little Desert National Park for their 2017 outdoor experience. The students learnt about this unique environment and shared in many engaging and informative activities. Special thanks to Mrs Sharon Kelly, Miss Simone Brabham, Mrs Lou Drummond and Gap student Beth White for their care of the students whilst away.
Blessing of the Pets
Yes, it is that time of the year when families organise their children and pets for the annual ‘Blessing of the Pets’ Service on Wednesday 8th November. The Service will be held on the Myrniong Library lawn at 9.00 am. Parents are asked to be available to take their pets home at the conclusion of the Service.
House Sports
Our trial of Friday House Sports has been a roaring success. 50 additional minutes of physical activity a week is the goal of the program. The students have really stepped up and represented their Houses with pride. It has been wonderful to witness the support and sportsmanship on display each Friday.
House Swimming Carnival
Please note a change in date for our House Swimming Carnival. This will be held on Friday, 30th November at Hughan Park Outdoor Pool from 9.30am.
