Assistant Principals

Assistant Principals 2018

Mr Shane Kruger has taken on the Assistant Principal role vacated by Mr Bruce Churchward.  As a result of the changes in the principal team the responsibilities of the Assistant Principals have been redistributed.

Ms Ford is now responsible for looking after students and teachers in the Later Years sub school in addition to supporting the Student Wellbeing Team.  Mr Kruger is responsible for looking after the Middle Years as well as curriculum, assessment and reporting.  Of course, Mr Lewis is still responsible for keeping everyone on their toes.

School Uniform Monitoring

Our College Dress Code was developed in consultation with students and parents taking into account affordability, durability and student comfort.  We have a range of options for students to choose from but it is our expectation that all students will be wearing full school uniform.

Wearing the uniform appropriately demonstrates that students have pride in their school and are happy to be a part of the community.

We know parents invest money in school uniform and ensure their children have all the necessary bits and pieces, but we also know that some adolescents will  make their own decisions about what items of uniform they will wear.  In order to support parents in getting their children to wear uniform we are focusing on monitoring uniform through Compass this year.

When circumstances require a student to be out of uniform students need to give their Home Group Teacher a note from a parent.  This note should state the item that is missing, the reason it is missing and when it will be available.  Teachers will issue the student a uniform pass and will make a record.  Students will be  allocated 1 demerit point on each occasion.  Sometimes students will choose to be out uniform and will not bring a note explaining why.  On these occasions the teacher will issue them a pass  and the student will receive 3 demerit points.  Parents will receive a notification each time their child is out of uniform.

Once a child reaches 10 demerit points they will be required to attend a uniform detention.  These will occur on Thursday afternoons from 3:20pm-4:10pm.  This will be communicated electronically to both parents and students.  We feel the demerit point system provides students with a structure that makes the expectations clear whilst being able to accommodate circumstances that may be beyond their control.

Details of the school uniform requirements are listed in the student planner on page 7-8.  All items of uniform other than school shoes are available at the school uniform shop which is open Mondays and Thursdays 3:00pm-5:00pm and the first Saturday of each term 1:00pm-4:00pm

School Shoes and Socks

We have had a very good overall start to the school year in terms of school uniform, however we have noticed students making fashion choices in terms of shoes and socks.  We have seen a number of students wearing black mesh or canvas runners and would like to remind parents that all students are required to have plain black, leather, low heeled, lace up shoes.  The leather, lace up  shoe provides students with the greatest amount of protection in practical classes.  Students feet are protected from hot liquid spills in subjects like Science and Home Economics, dropped sharp instruments in practical subjects like art and materials and dropped heavy objects.  Lace up is preferred over more open options like t bars due to the same reasons.

We also have a number of students who are choosing to wear black socks instead of white.  Our College uniform is white socks as it gives students a cleaner more finished look than black.  We will be having a strong focus on ensuring all students are in the correct shoes and socks.

Computer Roll Out

It was a hugely busy first day of school when the IT team: Clark Bull, Jimmy Le and George Stylianou rolled out new computers to all year 7, 9 and 10 students. It was a slow start on the day but once the crew got moving it went very smoothly. All students should now have received their devices.  Orders for Lenovo computer have now  closed and however the orders for Mac computers are open for another week.

School Photos

School photos were taken on Tuesday 6th February.  It was  a busy, busy day with more than 1200 students having a portrait taken and a significant number of families taking advantage of the opportunity to have a family photograph done.

We understand that there were some students who were absent on the day so a photo catch up day is planned for February 22nd.  Any students who did not have their photo done this week will be photographed on that day.

Photos are used on the student ID cards which allows the student to use their card as proof they are a student for various student concessions.

We expect photos will be available in March.
