Hair for Heart
Wantirna College always supports students who help fund raise for worthy causes. Last year Sophie, one of our amazing Year 7 students, became involved in a very worthy cause: ‘Hair with Heart’ project. Variety – the Children’s Charity provides wigs to kids who have lost their hair due to Alopecia or another medical condition such as cancer. Losing your hair can have profound psychological effects, particularly through childhood and adolescence.
Sophie set a target to raise $500 and as of late last year she had raised over $800 with the support of her family, friends and the school. On Friday 15th December, Sophie had her long flowing locks cut off at Cuts and Colours at Knox City. She had been growing her hair for many years but donated over 40cm of her hair to be made into wigs. The Herald-Sun were there to record the event.
Have a look at the before, during and after photos. Sophie has demonstrated her commitment to the local community and as a school we are really proud of her efforts.
