Associate Principal, Operations Report

This week, our Assembly at Chaucer Street demonstrated a number of features of the College well. We had choral music and massed singing, a fine message in the Reading and its interpretation by Mrs McClure, a well-presented Mentor group appeal for support for fund-raising for a very worthwhile cause (“Under the Mango Tree”) and the presentation of sporting trophies to the College, not to mention a thoughtful and engaging presentation from the School Captains about the need to wear our uniform well. It was an uplifting assembly and we had a couple of visitors present. I imagined they enjoyed the time in the Auditorium with us.
Speaking to one a little later, they regaled me with a story of a moment which had impressed them. Whilst they had enjoyed the Assembly, the moment had occurred a little afterwards. They returned to the foyer of the MPAC to meet the member of staff with whom they were spending time. Recess had begun and there were large queues at the Cafeteria. Our visitor peered through the massed bodies trying to find their colleague. A senior student moved through the crowd and asked if they could help: the visitor was obviously looking for someone; perhaps they could assist in locating them.
In many ways it was a very small, and some would say, almost insignificant, moment. For our visitor it said volumes about their time with us. It was no small thing, I would argue!
I have no idea who the student was – I hope it could have been anyone – but to that person, I say, “Well done!”
