GD Cross Country
Last Friday on the 20th of May the school participated in the annual GD Cross-Country event. It was a perfect day and we were running on a real cross-country track behind Monivae College, which included laps of a paddock with obstacles such as pot holes, mud slides and puddles. Although it was a difficult track we came home with both the Male and Female Champions and won the overall Aggregate Shield on the day. First place winners were Brooke Mibus, Harris Jennings and Niamh Sutherland, second place getters were Sam Rowe, Emily Johnston, Max Green and Millie Austin, third place getters were Hamish Richards, Josh Cavill, Elly McLean, Fran Sutherland, Phoebe Sweeney, Sam Crawford and Grace Austin. We now will continue to train for our final event – ICCES X-C in Melbourne in August.
Winning GD cross-country was a great achievement because now we have successfully won all of the Glenelg Division events for 2016 which is the first time in five years. Well done to everyone who participated.

Divison One Women
The College Thundersticks tackled Coleraine on Sunday afternoon. This was always a danger game with Claudia Roberts, Hannah and Chloe Russell and Phoebe Sweeney all unavailable. We were fortunate to secure the talents of B Grade players Mrs Murphy, Maddy Rowe and Skye McIntosh. Unfortunately, Maddy injured her knee in the first 10 min and was unable to take the field for the rest of the game. The girls made a flying start with Captain Emily Johnston scoring off a short corner in the first 3 minutes and then again mid-way through the first half. The first half was certainly a “shoot out” with Coleraine also scoring twice. College went into the half time break leading 3-2. The second half was dominated by College scoring 3 more goals with Coleraine only converting once more. Hannah Nichols and Abby Hayes played superb games on the half line. Charlotte Boyd-Walsh played her best game of the season and Beatrice Nesbitt made a number of crucial saves in goals. Well done to Skye McIntosh scoring her first goal in A Grade. Skye has only played 5 hockey games taking the sport up this season. Goal scorers were Mrs Williams (2), Emily Johnston (2) Maddi Mutch and Skye McIntosh.

Boys' Hockey
Neither of the Under 16 teams was in action last week due to the Junior Country Championships in Melbourne.
The Open team played some very good team-oriented hockey to record an excellent 11-2 victory over Monivae Taipans. Tom Verco was a fine running player, scoring six goals and earning his captain a yellow card. Captain Josh Nichols was tireless in mid field and Sam Rowe gave great drive on the wing. Nick Lacey and Will Allen provided composure and security on the half-line. Parent David Merrin scored his first goal and we welcomed back Old Collegian Chay Deary. Chay scored a goal also - his first for College since around 2009! - and showed a few touches that suggest he will be a good contributor to the team. The boys ran effectively early in the game and also in the second half. I felt we dropped our intensity and started admiring the game a little in the late first half but the boys responded well after the break.
With the Dees also winning in the AFL, it was a very good weekend!
