Kostas Vassilacopoulos

2017 VCAL Captain

One of the most rewarding aspects of this year’s VCAL program was working on a number of integrated learning projects, like the sports activities we planned and ran for Year 8 students, our collaboration with the Peer Support Leaders to run The Amazing Race and the garden-planting project our class undertook together with students from the Science and Environment Club.

In 2016 our class also had the opportunity to apply for a community based grant from Vic Health. We put an application together and made a video about some potential issues in Moreland that we would like to address. We chose the theme of inclusion as our focus, along with the goal of contributing to the school and wider community in a positive way. Seeing this project through in 2017 will be one of the highlights of the year.

I am thrilled to have been elected the VCAL Captain for 2017 and am really keen to work alongside the other Captains, the VCAL Co-ordinator, Principal and Assistant Principals to continue to improve our program and contribute to the wider school community. I am looking forward to initiating and supporting more student-led activities, especially co-operative projects with cocurricular programs across year levels.

I think the industry investigation is really relevant and provides opportunities to compare different occupations or positions in our chosen area.

I am a hands-on learner, so the highlights for me included participating in the applied skills projects. Next year, I am looking forward to completing my VET course at CERES.
