Careers Report

Year 12
It is now time for our Year 12 students to be considering early entry schemes as an admission pathway to university if applicable; and scholarships. Every educational institution has a specific marketing program to attract students and so it is important that students visit the websites to learn about what each institution has to offer. Many tertiary providers rely on HSC performances whereas others require a separate application, each with their own due dates. So far this year we have had Macquarie University, Newcastle University and The Australian Defence Forces making presentations to our students. The literature distributed at these presentations is very valuable for students as a reference tool.
For students who wish to apply to university through the University Admissions Centre (UAC), the commencement date to register preferences will begin in August. As soon as the necessary information arrives at the school, each prospective university student will receive a copy of UAC’S latest publication detailing important dates, course codes and procedures etc . Recent changes to UAC procedures, the Schools Recommendation Scheme and other details will follow in a later issue.
Any student who would like to review their options including TAFE and training companies should make an appointment to discuss their individual opportunities with me.
Year 10
The Year 10 into 11 Interview day will be held at school on Tuesday 18 July. All Year 10 students should be preparing their Resume folder for this day to produce to their interviewer. Students have been shown a variety of ways to do this in their Careers lessons throughout the semester. This is a final chance for students to consider their subject selections for Year 11 and talk to a teacher about the suitability of their choices.
Careers and Transition Excellence Awards
Caitlin Sullivan in Year 11 is a finalist at this most prestigious occasion. Her area of interest has been Animal Studies. Caitlin has been involved in several Work Experiences to do with animals including Taronga Park Zoo and she undertakes Animal Studies at TAFE as part of her HSC studies.
