Hi - welcome to the SRC page of the Brunswick Star!

As a group, the SRC has decided to create this page to give students and parents the opportunity to have more insight into what goes on behind the scenes for the SRC - from putting up posters to organising events - and so much more!

Our aim this year is to get as much student involvement and input as possible, so that every individual has the opportunity to say what they would like to improve in the school. Make sure to keep your eyes peeled for interesting updates.

In this issue, we’ll take you through what we’ve done for the wrap up of Remote Learning. It  is all about making the transition back to face to face learning as easy as possible!

"Thank You Teachers!"

The Thank You video was an idea of the SRC, with the intention that as many people from the student community as possible could participate.

We wanted to acknowledge the teachers' hard work and sacrifice throughout the Remote Learning period and thought this was the best way, especially as teachers had already been posting videos to remind us that they were thinking about and missing us.

Students were asked to send in photos, videos, songs or art that could be included in the video - whatever media they were comfortable with. Lots of students were more than happy to help thank our teachers for their role in guiding us through the uncertain period of Remote Learning. Once everyone had sent their contributions, I edited the video together and Mr Taylor distributed it to the teachers via the Teams software.

We have had fantastic feedback from all the teachers who really enjoyed it.  Watch the video here.

In our SRC meeting, when we went over the brief for the video, I saw that there was an option for a rhyming poem. I then looked at my guitar and thought, “Wouldn’t it be awesome to write a song for the teachers?”

I wanted to do something unique, something no-one else would have thought of. I was so proud of the end product and also loved the video as a whole.

I thoroughly enjoyed being involved in the teacher’s thank you video. It was a great opportunity to show my appreciation and thanks to all the teachers for their effort and support throughout remote learning. I had lots of fun filming the video clips with my friends.

Sarah Meads

VCAL Coordinator

It was such a pleasant surprise to receive the Thank You Teachers video at the end of our period of remote learning!

On behalf of all the staff, I would like to acknowledge the thought and effort put in by the members of the SRC, especially media wiz Tim Augier, and to thank all the participants for really making our day!  All staff members appreciated the finished project and the sentiment behind it.

It was great to get the news that we could come back to school and meet each other in person again.

To celebrate this, the SRC created Welcome Back posters for all year levels, which have been put up in the locker areas. We hope that these posters create a welcoming atmosphere after the challenges we all have experienced.

Student Executive Leader - Engagement

During the first week that the senior students were back at school, the School captains, Executive leaders and available Learning Area and Year Level Representatives held a Teams virtual meeting to link those at school and those still doing remote learning together. We thought this was great way to keep everyone up to date with our projects and things in the making.

Do you have a good idea?

The SRC is open to all students across all year levels, and  wants to hear your ideas for events, activities or suggestions for improvement.  Talk to your Year Level or Area Representative and ask them to put your suggestions forward at an SRC meeting!
