From the Principal

Welcome to the term where we head joyfully towards Spring!

I want to extend a very special welcome to the 16 children and their families who have joined the Arlington community this term.  This is the largest group of newcomers we have had for some time and we are delighted to have our numbers increased.  I am sure they will be warmly welcomed by our children and teachers and we encourage all families to introduce themselves and confirm this welcome.

While there is a series of special events planned for this term I want to highlight the Spring Dinner, on Thursday 12 September. This year the dinner will be based on the idea of ‘The Great Australian Bite’ and all that might encompass.

This is an annual event and the School’s main fundraiser.  We are blessed to have John Collins, who is an outstanding teacher, a brilliant cook and a man of such patience and passion that he is able to build a volunteer group of secondary students into a high performing team of young chefs.

Together, over the coming term as part of the Electives program, they will design and perfect all the dishes for a 7-course gourmet feast, cooked and presented to 120 diners in the Blackhall Library, which will be transformed for the evening into a lavishly stylish dining room.  A team of teachers will step forward to contribute to and support this ambitious and impressive project.

The involvement of Arlington teachers and families will be a particularly significant one, this year, with Troy Wass, father of Hamish in the 10s, taking on a key role as MC.  He will be supported by an enthusiastic group of Arlington parents, who are keen to have as much Arlington involvement as possible in this event.

Parents of primary-aged children don’t often have the opportunity to see the older Blackhall Kalimna students engaged in significant projects that showcase their commitment and hard work. This is an opportunity to gain a real insight into the culture of the secondary school and to see first hand the respect and camaraderie that underpins the relationships our students have with each other and with their teachers.

Every year my pride in our students and their teachers is reignited by this event.

I hope that all Arlington families take up the invitation to a wonderful, and delicious, occasion. As our major fundraiser we are also looking for contributions to the Silent Auction and to any other assistance you may be able to offer.  Please use this link if you wish to donate goods to the silent auction. Tickets will go on sale soon so please reserve the date and a place at the table.
