Parent and caregivers guide to university

This one is courtesy of Deakin but you can apply most of the information to any institution. Parents and caregivers play an important role in providing guidance, information and support to their child as they plan their future and consider their further study options. It can be hard to know the best way to offer support to your child when it comes to choosing a course of study and a university. Deakin has put together some great tips on how to help your child stay focused and start developing the skills needed for university. I hope you find it helpful.

Year 10 VTAC guide

As a Year 10 student about to choose your Years 11 and 12 study program, it can all seem a little overwhelming. But if you break it down into steps, it becomes more manageable. This guide has some great activities and resources to help you with some of the next steps which will be about subject selection. Some of these activities you may have participated in as part of our Careers Elective but it doesn't hurt to take another look at them.

This guide is produced by VTAC (the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre) so some of the information is more relevant for studying the VCE, however a lot of the information applies no matter what educational system you complete.

Inside you will find more tips on researching tertiary education, entrance requirements, pre-requisite studies, selection process, ATAR information, VET studies and pathways, culminating in bringing all your research together and creating a plan.

Once you have created a plan it is time to make an appointment to meet me and discuss some of your options so you are well and truly prepared when it comes to selecting the right subjects.

Remember my quote.. "Start with the D.R.E.A.M".

Note: A hard copy will be provided once they are printed and delivered mid-June.

Years 11 & 12 VTAC guide

This guide is produced by VTAC (the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre) so some of the information is more relevant for studying the VCE, however a lot of the information applies no matter what educational system you complete.

While you are in Year 11 and Year 12 you may still need to complete some research about what you would like to do after school.

If you are in Year 12 and want to go onto tertiary education, you also need to decide on the courses you would like to apply for. From Monday 5 August 2019 you will be able to submit your application. The deadline for timely applications is 5pm Monday 30 September 2019. You may also want to apply for special consideration (SEAS) and scholarships, which close Friday 11 October 2019. All the dates can be found on the last page of this guide.

The guide is designed to lead you through the course research and application processes, making it as straight forward as possible for you.  It is broken down into four sections and provides you with some ‘Action Plans’ along the way. It also includes a page of dates for upcoming Open Days. Remember, if you have any questions or need help please make a time to meet me before the end of Term Two because next term will be busy setting up your VTAC accounts and selecting some preferences. Note: A hard copy will be provided once they are printed and delivered mid-June.

The GAT 12 June

Please find attached below a copy of the GAT brochure that explains all there is to know about the GAT test. You can also view past tests and answer sheets here on the VCAA website.

"No special study is required for the GAT. The general knowledge and skills that are tested are those that students have built up through their previous study in English, Mathematics, Science and Social Sciences. Each question provides all the information needed to work out the right answer."

Further information for the Victorian Admission Centre about how the GAT is calculated to convert IB to Admission ranks can be found here at UAC. Linkhttps://www.uac.edu.au/assets/documents/international-baccalaureate/determining-atar-ib-equivalents.pdf
