RSC Production 'The Wedding Singer' Sings Again

Last week ‘THE WEDDING SINGER’ cast had their first VIRTUAL REHEARSAL in MS TEAMS along with the Production Team. It was wonderful to see so many students excited to begin rehearsals again and likewise hearing from their parents a heartfelt thank you.

In what form the show will take, we are unsure of at this stage – whatever it ends up being, we know it will be very special and positive experience for all our students to remember this time of their lives.

We are all living a very different world at the moment and in a time when many schools have had to make the decision to cancel upcoming productions, our Production team have made the commitment to the show and are moving forward to bring something together. Their belief in not only our students but the show is a commitment that goes above and beyond!

Thanks go to all the team, Karl McNamara, Gaynor Borlase, Jess Jemmerson, Annmarie Stelfox, Dane Sorensen and our Principal Michael Phillips for their support of the College Production and what it brings to College Life.

Year 7 Remote Indonesian

Students in Year 7 Indonesian have participated in the ‘Indogram Challenge’ this week which required them to communicate about their Iso activities using their Indonesian via our fake Instagram profiles! Many of these students have only had one terms worth of exposure to Indonesian so it is great to see them using it so fluently in an authentic situation! Hebat sekali, kelas 7H!

Wood Tech at Home

Alisha Luckhurst who is enrolled in my Yr10 Wood Tech class sent through a photo. See attached of an outdoor setting that she built at home.

Because she loves making and was bored and frustrated that she could not be at school in the Wood Tech room she has produced a backyard blitz

Elisha has produced outstanding work in my class too

Year 12 Sonya Karras Presentation

On Monday 4th May during Bounce, our Year 12 students were treated to a highly informative and entertaining presentation by Sonya Karras on how to stay safe and look after yourself and you friends when going out. We had 150 students turned in for this unique remote experience.

This presentation was recorded and will be available for 1 week on the Year 12 2020 site for and student who missed it. Sonya is also happy to take further questions. Here is the link to her Instagram account.

Here are some of the responses we received from our Year 12s:

This week we were fortunate enough, to have Sonya chat with us again, albeit in a slightly different manner. Presenting via video chat, Sonya discussed somewhat sensitive yet incredibly serious topics concerning teenagers and young adults, such as identification, calling an ambulance, consent, and drink spiking. The transition into digital learning has been handled brilliantly by all, and thus was able to provide the fantastic opportunity of listening to Sonya's presentation. A huge thanks to Sonya for still being able to present to us under these difficult circumstances, and I'm sure the experience was appreciated by all in attendance.

Every single time I get the pleasure of attending a Sonya Karras seminar, it’s filled with relevant information regarding parties, clubbing safety, and ensuring you get a good time out of the night. Even though we are all so keen to back out into the fray, it’s a welcome reminder of a voice free of patronisation, with our best interests at heart. From drink spiking, to the importance of ambulance cover, even stressing the little details of how to get home safe, it’s amazing to hear that from a seasoned professional, especially as a woman.

Sonya was great, she spoke about all necessary information for a year 12 party life. She addressed all drug use and how to be safe around that environment, as well as getting home safely and not getting spiked. She has a great sense of humour which helps create an engaged audience. The online presentation was fantastic, and she addressed all information via power points to help us gain an understanding. I learnt how to be safe in this party environment and I believe she is great to listen to!

Sonya Karras is by far one of the most loved guest speakers that we Year 12s are lucky enough to get a visit from! Sonya’s talks are always filled with hilarious stories, relatable jokes, and an entertaining nature to get important points across to our age group about underage drinking, club safety and knowing what to do when you find yourself - or a friend - in a difficult situation! Even though we sadly weren’t able to see her in person, the online chat was still super entertaining, informative and fun to be a part of!

Sonya’s presentation was very educational and entertaining. Keeping the attention of students is a difficult thing to do, but she does this very well by introducing comedic elements! This is the first online guest speaker I have had, and I think it worked well because we were all muted, the focus was on the presenter and we were given the opportunity to write questions for her in the chat where she was able to answer them accordingly.
