Poetry Excursion
A few weeks ago, our Year 12 Literature class was invited to Frankston High School to meet Chris Wallace-Crabbe, who is the poet of one of our texts we are studying this year. This was a great privilege for us as we were able to engage with Wallace-Crabbe and ask questions about his poetry and receive answers, from the man who wrote them himself. This has encouraged us to view his poetry from different perspectives and has particularly helped with preparation for our exam. It was also good to be able to meet a published poet/author who has had a lot of experience in his own life and in his writing. This was a memorable experience for all who went on this excursion.
Year 12 VCAL
Year 12A VCAL Numeracy students applied their skills to renovate the existing C rooms and assist in converting them into a modern and dedicated VCAL space, that is integrated into the Senior School Building.
Students used their numeracy skills to carry out measurements, estimates, costing and presented the renovation plans to the School Council which approved the project and supplied the necessary funding. The renovation allowed 12A students, most of whom are undertaking a Building and Construction pathway at TAFE to strip the old C rooms and remove an internal wall.
The new classrooms are a further addition to the state of the art learning facilities at Patterson River Secondary College and are on schedule to be operational by Step Up.
School Improvement Project
This term the Year 11 VCAL students have been keen to get on-the-tools and help with some landscaping projects around the school. The main task we have all been involved in is relocating the bench seating from the back of the oval and setting it around the new basketball half-courts. Each class was able to get three seats set in the ground per lesson, it was hard work but it felt good to stand back and see what we had achieved at the end of each lesson.
