From the Deputy Principal

Start of term

During yesterday's welcome assembly we announced our new leaders for 2023. Our current School Captains, Ellie Slatter and Andrew Smith shared some of their experiences as leaders and offered some excellent advice to all students.   Ellie shared her thoughts and I think there are great insights in her words for all of us.

This is one of my last speeches here as School Captain, and the other day I was reflecting on this past year and everything that I learnt, and all of the wonderful experiences I have had the pleasure of having.

This year has been an incredible privilege, and the new skills I have picked up throughout this past year are ones I will cherish for many years to come. There are certain skills such as confidence with public speaking, ability to talk to others more fluidly, as well as interactions with people of many different ages are all things that I have learnt. However, in saying this, you don’t have to be a leader to pick up these skills. These are all things that we can learn and build on every day.   It’s easy to get caught in the trap of, “I’m not a leader, so I don’t need to act like one”,  but often this thinking can lead us to indirectly think that the actions we take are ones that don’t matter and aren’t going to have any negative consequences.

We don’t always have to be a leader of others, sometimes all we have to do is be a leader of ourselves. We can be the one to tell ourselves what is right and wrong, and display to ourselves what the best thing is to do in a certain situation, in order to be the best person we can be.

Leaders have so many forms, and so even if you think that it could never be you, always remember this, and remember that every single one of you can do great things, all you need to do is put your wonderful minds to it.  I'd like to extend a massive congratulations to this next round of leaders and wish you all amazing luck with the year ahead.

Farewell to Miss Claire St Jack, Student Services

This week we bid a fond farewell to Miss Claire St Jack who has been with us here at GSG since 2009.  Claire worked as our Student Services Officer in Middle School creating a warm and welcoming environment for students and their families alongside providing valuable support to staff.  There is more information about Claire's time at GSG from our Head of Middle School.  We wish Claire all the very best in her future endeavours.
