Y9/10 Japanese

Online Exchanges with Noboribetsu Akebi Secondary School

Year 9

On 25 October, an exchange call was held between the BSC Year 9 Japanese class and the Japanese students in Hokkaido. Throughout this exchange, we presented our previously made PowerPoints on Australian birthdays. These PowerPoints highlighted the key attributes of Australian parties. Once our presentations were over, the Japanese students asked questions about the slideshow, in Japanese, which we answered in Japanese. After all the questions were asked, the Japanese students presented their PowerPoints that focussed primarily on Japanese festival traditions. They educated us on the variety of foods, traditional music and dance, and clothing that is worn during these festivals. Furthermore, when their presentations were complete, we had the opportunity of asking the students questions about their presentations and traditions. Overall, the experience was delightful and educationally beneficial. In the future, we hope to be able to meet these students in person and communicate with them further.

Year 10

Year 10 Japanese class students completed their second online exchange with Norboribestu Akebi High School. Students discussed their neighbourhood and showcased their understanding of what they had learnt this term.

The Japanese students presented an excellent presentation, showing students' traditional Japanese houses, buildings and rooms.

The Beaumaris students presented on our neighbourhood and important features within Bayside.

We were able to use CORE values of curiosity and respect to engage with the Japanese school to create meaningful conversation and showcase Japanese speaking skills which developed this term.

It was すごい experience and we look forward to the next opportunity to learn about students in Japan and improve our cultural awareness!                                     -
