On Thursday 1 September, two teams of year 7 and 8 students went to Salisbury East High School to compete in the first VEX IQ competition in South Australia for the 2022/2023 season.

With two unfinished robots going into the competition, the students designed and built their robots on the fly. They compared designs with those of other schools and conversed with the other school teams to learn how to better build and control their robots.

The scoring of the competition involved two teams working together meaning that there were two teams for 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Ultimately one of our teams came third and were the only team to successfully complete a portion of the challenge. While the other team may not have placed, they managed to complete part of the challenge in a manner no-one else could.

Both teams enjoyed the day and I hope for these students continue in robotics throughout their school years.
