Principal's Message

Pauline Dinale

Dear St Margaret Mary’s Parents and Carers,

First Holy Communion

Last Sunday, children from St Margaret Mary’s received the Sacrament of Eucharist for the first time - their First Holy Communion, at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, Randwick. This is the second group of children from our school to receive this very important sacrament, this year. It is always wonderful to see all the children and their families, including their extended family, making this a priority on Sunday. For many children this will be a day they will never forget.

Can I ask you all to keep in your prayers all the children who made their First Holy Communion this year and to pray that their families will continue to gift them with a faith that is true and active. May God continue to bless you in your role as parents and grant you wisdom, patience and hope in this, our next generation.

Colour Fun Day

Last Friday the school community gathered together for one of the most enjoyable days of the year – our first Colour Fun Run. The day was a huge success! Our staff and students had such a great day filled with bright smiles and bright colours. As the students ran through the obstacle course, there was lots of lively laughter, colour and a buzzing atmosphere. The scent of the sausage sizzle and bacon and egg rolls wafted through the air and the sound of excited children dancing to “Bop Till You Drop” could be heard all over the school.

A special thanks to Mrs McClure for organising the day and the staff who were great sports, even after being covered in colour. A special thanks to the parents who volunteered to help and to the parents who joined in the fun. It was wonderful to experience the St Margaret Mary’s community spirit.

Swimming Program

What a wonderful time we have had at the swimming program over these last two weeks after a two year absence. This program is so important to ensure the safety of our children in the water and it has been a great success. The children have done a terrific job of organising themselves and have conducted themselves in a responsible manner at all times. They are learning important skills that will keep them safe over the summer months as they are in and around water.

Sincere thanks to Miss Frost and Mrs McClure for organising the swimming carnival and to our generous parent volunteers.  It promises to be a great day.

Staff Development Days

Please note two additional Staff Development Days have been endorsed by Sydney Catholic Schools and have been added to the 2022 school calendar. Thursday 15th December and Friday 16th December. These days will focus on the new K-2 Mathematics and English Syllabus and the new Religious Education modules in preparation for 2023. Supervision of students who are not able to stay home on the day will be provided by GOSH. Please note, the students' last day for 2022 will be Wednesday, 14th December. Your understanding is much appreciated.

End of Term Message

On behalf of the staff I would like to extend a huge thank you to each and every one of you for your support and assistance this term. I would like to extend my gratitude to all the parents who have assisted by generously donating their time to volunteer as classroom helpers, assist at sporting events or on excursions and events. Your generosity is very much appreciated by both children and staff. Parent involvement in a school is an important factor in building a strong community and in helping to increase learning outcomes for children.

During the holidays may I encourage any parent of beginning readers to continue the home reading routine. Two weeks is a long break for those children who are needing practice. A little reading every day combined with a story at bedtime will make a significant difference. For numeracy, children can continue to play some of the ‘Maths Fluency games’ they have been learning in class.

Lord, help us to be thankful for one another. Help our children to be thankful for each other, for our families to be grateful for each member and to pray for one another continually. Our gratitude for one another will bind us together as a community, and our prayers for each other will further unify us in gratitude and love.

Wishing each and every one of you a safe, restful and enjoyable holiday break and I look forward to seeing you in Term 4.
