Tea Party

Friday November 13th was a big day in the Library.

At recess the Library celebrated Alice in Wonderland's 150th birthday with a Tea Party. Students and staff transformed the fiction area into a garden party theme, complete with flowers, teapots, giant chess pieces and a delicious feast. It was also the occasion to farewell our year 9 Book Clubbers, who are off to the Etty street campus.

At lunchtime students from all year levels visited the Library to listen to The Satanic Wilsonsperform.  There was much applause and appreciation for a group who were making only their second public performance.

I recently interviewed  the band's manager Lily K, and here is what she said.

Ms McD: Tell me about the Satanic Wilsons. Who are the members, and what instruments do they play?

Lily: Our band members are Abigail on keyboard, Lloyd on bass, Gussie on guitar, Cohen on drums and Kari is our loyal treasurer.

Ms McD: How long have you been together as a group?

Lily: I would say, several months. We began as a cheerleading group called Manks, but then decided to form a band instead. Our group is in the Music stream at school, and Abigail and Lloyd's fathers play in a band together.

Ms McD: How would you describe the style of music you play?

Lily: That's a difficult question! I would describe our style as "Jizz Jazz" - perhaps vaguely Indy rock?

Ms McD: Tell me about the songs you perform. Maybe I've heard of them?

Lily: We actually write our own material!

Ms McD: Impressive! Tell me about the process.

Lily: It's kind of a joint effort with the music; everyone contributes a bit. The lyrics come afterwards, and I would say come from life experience.

Ms McD: Will your appearance in the Library be your first performance?

Lily: No, we participated in this year's Battle of the Bands at the Theatre Royal, which was a fantastic experience.

Ms McD: Who would you say most inspires your music?
