Australian Maths Competition

On Thursday 1st August, 20 students across Year 7 to 11 participated in the Australian Maths Competition. The Australian Mathematics Competition was introduced in Australia in 1978 as the first Australia-wide mathematics competition for students. It has since spread internationally, with students in more than 30 countries attempting the same problems.

The AMC was aimed at students of all standards. Students were asked to solve 30 problems in 75 minutes. The problems were designed to test mathematical thinking and questions were designed so that they could be answered just as quickly without a calculator as with one. The problems increased in difficulty throughout the competition, so that at the end they were challenging to even the most gifted students. Students of all standards could make progress through the problems, and also be challenged along the way.

This competition gave our students an excellent opportunity to challenge themselves and compete against students across Australia, with certificates being provided to all students who participated. It also provides our school with valuable data about how our students compare with others across the country.

Congratulations to all who participated, we eagerly await the results and look forward to passing on your certificates as soon as they arrive.
