Instrumental Music Update: Celebrating Attendance and Participation
This term, students have been attending music lessons in our brand new instrumental rooms near the canteen. Staughton offers a huge variety of musical instruments to learn, including violin, guitar and bass, brass, woodwind, drums and percussion, keyboard and voice. We’ve seen these students develop their skills and knowledge in music, but we’re especially impressed by the significant rise in student attendance this year. Out of the 93 students in the music program, 57 students have attended 100% of their instrumental lessons this term. These students received a certificate of appreciation for their efforts and, of course, a lollipop to sweeten the victory. As a whole cohort, instrumental lesson attendance is now at 92%, with the average student attending 6 out of 7 lessons this term. That’s outstanding work!
Outside the instrumental classrooms, we’ve seen students participating in various events and activities too. A selection of our finest Staughton performers rocked the microphone at the Swimming Carnival and serenaded parents and staff at the Year 7 BBQ. We also saw many instrumental students compete in The S Factor talent show, with many making their way to the Finale. In fact, The S Factor winner, Matilda Castovita, studies two musical instruments – keyboard and voice. No wonder she took home the prize! We also saw some strong and beautiful voices sing about diversity and equality at the Ice-Cream Fun Day during Cultural Diversity Week.
It’s fantastic to see so many instrumental students sharing their abilities and supporting each other along the way. Our instrumental teachers are definitely noticing the enthusiasm in instrumental classes and appreciate how well students have been treating the new instrumental rooms. Keep an ear out at the end of next term for Staughton College’s first ever Music Week. We can’t wait to see what our music students will show us next. Keep up the great work!
