VCAL Excursion

VCAL Excursion

On Friday, the 18th of March, the VCAL classes went to the zoo. We met at the Melton South station at 9am to catch the 9:38am train into Southern Cross. Once at the station, we then caught another train to Royal Park, which was in front of the zoo entrance.

During our time at the zoo it rained, so we were limited in where we could walk. When we got into the zoo, we split into separate groups, stared at the baboons and ended up at the elephants last. We don’t get to see half these animals in everyday life, so I enjoyed seeing them on the one-off occasion.

Our focus in Literacy is whether or not animals should be kept in the zoo. While looking around, I thought that for some of the animals it is good that they are in the zoo because it means they will be safe. Even though it’s better for the endangered species to live longer, certain animals need to be in the wild or at least have bigger enclosures. Most animals have an enclosure where they can walk around but animals such as snakes have no room to move and are restricted to laying there still day after day.

Overall, the zoo helped us to work out our contention on the issue.
