Year 10 Media Excursion

Year 10 Media Excursion
Last Thursday (28/4/16), the Year 10 Media class went on an excursion to the Melbourne CBD for a photography workshop. This is a great part of our photography unit as students get the chance to demonstrate and further develop their skills. The point of the excursion was for students to think outside the box when trying to create their shots, implementing compositional elements and trying to take different photographic types, such as: still life, nature, action/motion, macro, architectural, etc.
We went to a range of locations, starting off at the Yarra Promenade, where students took portrait and landscape shots; then the Alexandra and Queen Victoria Gardens, where students took macro and nature shots; Flinders Street Station, where students photographed iconic historical landmarks; Hosier Lane, where students captured graffiti/street art; and we finished at the State Library, where students captured the architectural structure. Students were very creative when trying to capture the best and most interesting shots; they experimented with height, depth and viewpoint.
All in all, the students were very pleased with the photographs they took, comparing them with each other and offering feedback during the train journey back to school. I was very proud of what they produced on the day.
“I really liked exploring the city and capturing all the different camera shots and angles. The best part of the excursion was exploring the graffiti walls and visiting the library whilst exploring all the old architecture.” Natalie Abela, 10.5.
“I really enjoyed exploring every part of the city, it was one of the best experiences I've had. My favourite part was the Victoria State Library because I love books and it was just beautiful. I also loved the Queen Victoria Garden; nature is one of my favourite things to take photos of, so that was such an amazing time!!” Sharni Stewart, 10.7.
