Calligraphy Lesson

Visit from Osaka, Japan

On Monday August 12, we were very fortunate to have a number of guests from Osaka, Japan come and visit the college for the day to share their passion for traditional calligraphy.

Keiko Fukumitsu and her team of six “Super Shodo Kids” conducted calligraphy lessons for students studying Japanese in Years 8 to 10, where they instructed our students in the basics of various brush techniques as well as the importance of maintaining proper posture.

Our students were later able to create some beautiful artwork themselves using both modern and ancient Japanese characters during the calligraphy lessons. They were incredibly enthusiastic and eager to put their newly acquired skills to the test.

Overall, the day was a great success and provided fantastic opportunities for our students to experience more traditional aspects of Japanese culture. Many of the participants stated that they enjoyed expanding their knowledge of Japanese culture and feel even more passionate about learning the language.
