Yarra City Carols

Thank you to our MGC choir who performed three carols at the City of Yarra’s Carols by Candlelight in very hot conditions last Thursday, 6th December, at Citizen Park in Richmond. The Choir’s final performance was at Tuesday’s Year 7 Orientation Day assembly. Well done girls!

Congratulations to Jamila Jalloh

Jamila is in her second year of the Accelerando program and performed two songs at a sold-out evening at the Recital Centre on Saturday, 1st December. She has been an excellent ambassador for MGC in this program and also as a solo vocalist with the State School Spectacular, which was screened on Channel 7 on Saturday, 8th December. Here is a link to Jamila’s 2017 Accelerando performance.

Thank you

A huge shout out to our amazing Performing Arts and Instrumental Music teachers at Melbourne Girls’ College, who have facilitated 39 performance evening opportunities for our students this year, including our musical production of Bring It On, as well as Dance Nights, Year 9, 10, 11 and 12 performance evenings, instrumental soirees and showcases. This is on top of the many lunchtime, before school, afterschool and weekend rehearsals, exams and performances!  Thank you to Wen Chin, Jordan Evans, Lindy Mumme, Ellyce Calder, Susan de Jong, Andy Clarke, Tony Hicks, Les Gyori, Katrina Halliday, Nick Milosevic and honorary member of the Performing Arts team, Trev Howlett for his technical support. Thank you to all our support staff for their assistance with our performance evenings, especially Beth Barrass and Sylvan Dorney for Trybooking ticketing.

Thank you also to Marianne Rothschild for her work this term with our violin students while Les was on long service leave.

It is with sadness that we acknowledge and say goodbye to Zack Pretlove and Alice Dawes as they move on to other schools. Alice worked tirelessly with “Bring It On” in her first year at MGC and Zack pioneered our Year 10 Event Management course and has been an invaluable member of the Performing Arts, both in the classroom and behind the scenes with sound and technical assistance. We wish them all the best at their new schools.

Finally, a huge thank you to all our students who have participated in the Performing Arts at MGC and to their parents for their support.

We look forward to 2019, celebrating our 25th year of Performing Arts @ MGC.

Wishing everyone a happy holiday,

Anne Corry
