The year has begun well with students eager to start their new VET courses and finalise work placements.
Students are involved in a range of VET placements including Hospitality, Building and Construction, Fashion, Sport and Recreation, Community services, Hair and Beauty and Music to name a few.
Year 12 students delighted the school community with a Valentine’s Day lunchtime activity on Monday 13 February. Students worked extremely hard over a short time frame to entertain and feed students with a BBQ, cup cakes, brownies , chocolate baskets. Fresh and chocolate roses were also available. Students also participated in some games to win prizes, listened to music and enjoyed the sunshine and the activities. Well done to the group and we look forward to the next event.
Lots of events are planned for our VCAL students this year and we will keep you informed as activities take place.
Year 12 Study Camp
On the 9 February 2017 all Year 12 students of VCE and VCAL went to an event to study camp, to study skills of success at university and RMIT. The camp was an opportunity for all students to be more confident and successful with their pathways and careers in further future.
The camp, both a university environment and accommodation team was a peer’s social/building up friendships program. The camp lasted for 2 days and one night. All VCAL and VCE students did attend school at 7:30am and we all got dismissed at the university college at 3pm on a Friday afternoon with former Archie Fusillo giving us such an inspirational story about his childhood, and Ms Dowsley for giving us a wonderful memorable welcoming to all students of 2017 reading an old time favorite Dr.Seus book that the moral of it all is that we all should believe in ourselves even when times get tough, we all still can manage to pull through. students did arrive at the camp by a bus, the purpose of the camp was to provide motivation and to strive for what you want to become as we get older, all students also received important aspects of information, each student was given information with their work related skills and future pathways.
When all students were arrived at camp, both groups went into gender, so boys went to Armond College across the road whilst the girls went to University College. All meals and activities were provided. We got keys to our rooms, some had suites others had offices. We did get to have our time to ourselves, and pretty much you just needed to get ready to go to outdoors and enjoy each other’s company. All students did attend sessions of language, team building, workshops and personal writing. With all students participating and taking part in roles we did manage to do things under the 37 degree weather! We went back to have dinner around 6:00pm at Ormond College and to finish the day off we all went the movies at Melbourne central by walking which wasn’t as bad as you had your friends to occupy you along the way the walk back wasn’t as draining. When we got back with each gender going to their university camps, we had free time but lights out was at 11 o’clock. The next day Friday 10th of February 2017, we had breakfast packed our bags and had presentations and university tours at RMIT.
Overall the study camp was an extraordinary experience for young peers to get to know each other along comes a great way believing in yourself and to have those surrounded by you motivate you to be a better you and always do the best of your ability.
