Infants

Christmas is in the air in the Infants building! We have all been busily decorating and embracing the festive season and lots of us are coming home sparkling from all the crafting and glittering going on! We are all hoping that with the Christmas spirit shining, there might be an arrival of a cheeky friend quite soon…

There are lots of fun events happening in the wind-down of the school year and wind-up to Christmas! Keep an eye out for notes and further details about these events and we look forward to catching up with many family members over the next couple of weeks. While we all know how busy this time of year is, it’s all about enjoying and celebrating with the special people in our lives!

The Intensive Swimming Program has begun for some of our Year 2 and 3 students. These swimming and water safety lessons are being run by Jaimee – a big thank you to Jaimee for helping to teach our students these essential survival skills. Thank you also to all staff for coordinating and managing the change of routine to allow this program to take place.

Our newest and youngest students have just wrapped up their transition program, having a wonderful final full-day last week. A highlight was making gingerbread men with Ms Hawkins in the big kitchen and decorating Christmas trees with their buddies. A big thank you to Angus Mitchell for donating the wooden trees for our students to paint and decorate. Now we look forward to them joining us for ‘real life’ at Big School next year!

K/1

K/1 have been making the most of the last half the of term at school for 2022. We have had a wonderful time reading ‘The Potato People’ by Pamela Allen, writing about the story, and then making and naming our own potato people – fun!

In STEM we have had lots of excitement when programming the Ozobots to move around a course with Ms Bridge. Students had to colour code for different movements and then see if they could make their Ozobot knock down some pins – lots of delighted faces noises when they successfully achieved this!

Primary

The Primary classrooms have been a hive of activity over the past two weeks. We have had our School Captain interviews, speeches and voting - and it has been a very impressive process. Our nominees were Hugo, Amelia, Blayde, Dylan, Emily, Zac, Lilah and Ava. All of these nominees sat for an interview with Mr Jones and me, and they impressed us with their preparation, professionalism and application to the nomination. All of these candidates will be leaders in their own right in 2023, but our finalised Student Leadership Team for 2023 is:

Prefect: Blayde Trotter

Well done to these students on their election to our leadership team. To those who missed out on a position, please know that your application, interview, and speeches were brilliant - and our staff look forward to collaborating with you next year in all matters of leadership.

We have been busily preparing for the Year 6 Farewell Assembly and the Year 6 Formal this coming Monday and Tuesday. All community members (especially parents) are invited to the farewell assembly in the Hall on Monday 5 December at 2:00 pm. All Year 5 and 6 students are invited to the Year 6 Formal on Tuesday Night, and tickets can be paid for at the Office in cash.

The student reports will come out just before the end of the year. I've been lucky enough to read every single one and there are two things that are certain:

We have incredible students at our school
We have dedicated, talented and caring teachers here too!

I look forward to parents receiving these reports and sharing the success of their children with others. It's an incredibly busy time of year but take a moment to read these reports thoroughly - they are important.

We also look forward to the excursion in Week 10. Please finalise any payments and details with the Office ASAP and remember to bring lunch and recess for the first day on the trip!

Assistant Principal Primary (Relieving)

Year 5/6

The 5/6 class have been at their busy best over the past two weeks. We have had our University of Wollongong Practicum Student Taylah Cutting on the class, and she has been great. We did a full unit on Debating - and another thing is for certain: the 5/6 class certainly knows how to argue! We thank Taylah for her help and excellent teaching over the past three weeks. Miss Cutting will be a fantastic teacher when she graduates, and we hope she chooses to come and work here at Boorowa Central School.

Our Year 6 students have had their transition days this Thursday and Friday. These days are chock-full of great learning and fun activities to give our Year 6 students a real taste of their future in secondary school. The students are ready for their next challenges no doubt!

In mathematics we have completed our unit on area and perimeter, and now we move to volume and statistics over the coming two weeks - never a dull moment! In English, we have been very creative and written different texts from a variety of stimuli - poems, photos of the Easter Bunny, astronauts and the list continues! In history we are working hard to finish our unit on the colonisation of Australia and life in the 1800s.

Stage 4 Technology Mandatory

Year 7 are continuing on their coding journey. We have moved onto script-based coding which has presented many challenges. All students are trying their best to meet each lesson challenge. Students have successfully coded the Edison Robots to drive home through a maze and to sing the Hokey Pokey with dance moves. Some great videos of this on Facebook. Great effort Year 7

Work Experience

During Week 6, Year 10 ventured out into the big wide world for their Work Experience week. They had a great time, and, in many cases, this week solidified their future career choices. As Dalijana, who spent the week at Boorowa Hospital said "It was a fantastic experience! Really worthwhile".

Stage 4 Poetry

This term in Years 7 and 8 English students have been exploring different forms of poetry and have been improving on their skills in reading, annotating and writing poetry. One student whose work stood out was Delilah Cross, the class task was to use a piece of stimulus to write a free verse poem.

Stage 5 History

Earlier in the term both Stage 5 History classes were tasked with creating a museum exhibition. Students were busy creating artefacts, researching information and crafting displays on the topic of the Holocaust.

We invited the community in to view our museum exhibit, resulting in a great turnout of guests. Students of BCS were also able to come up and enjoy the exhibit, some even lucky enough to have tours by some of our Stage 5 students. We received positive feedback from the community, teachers and students and was a great experience for all involved.
