End of year wind down ......

Everyone is starting to feel tired now. This is the first full year that we have done at school for 3 years now. Along with the tiredness that comes with the end of the year nerves start to grow about the transition into the next year.

Much time goes into placing the children into their classes for next year and teachers spend time preparing the children for what the new year will look like. The children will have time with their new teacher before the end of this year to begin building a relationship and see who is in their class.

Here's a few tips that I hope will make the end of the year go a little smoother.

Sleep routine: While we are all getting busy try to keep bedtimes close to as normal as possible. Children cope much better when they have had adequate sleep. They are able to reason with their thoughts and worries much more successfully.

Listen: Make time to truly listen to your child if they share their worries or feelings. If your child seems a bit 'off' keep in mind there are lots of thoughts around change and what it will look like so this might be causing the change. Make the time to ask them how they are feeling.

Offer guidance: It is important to acknowledge our children's feelings of concern and nerves around how things will be different. It is equally important to offer support and encouragement. Children benefit greatly when adults show a belief in them that they will be ok and that they can manage. Find things that are positive to look forward and that will be great about the changes that come with a new year.

Open communication:  Always keep the lines of communication open with school so that we can work together to support the children.

I hope some of these thoughts are useful.

Have a lovely week everyone
