Our first 5 weeks…..
Year 7 Transition Program
Thank you to Alycia Benincasa and Chris Danher for organising 2 days of enriched and engaging activities focused on transitioning our Year 7 students into their secondary setting. Year 7 students were closely engaged in a wide range of fun activities which allowed them to build new friendships, get to know their teachers and familiarise themselves with their new learning environment.
Senior School Capacity Building Day
Thank you to Anna Cerritelli, Michelle Lemire, Andrew Sivakumaran and Sue Brownbill for organising a series of workshops that helped prepare students for their senior year(s). The workshops were designed to equip students with the tools and skills needed to overcome any challenges they may encounter for a successful senior experience.
Senior School Parent Information Session
Thank you to Anna Cerritelli for organising this special evening and a big thank you to the families who attended.
This is an exciting year as we introduce our Year 9 Dynamic Learning Program to LNSC. Last year, Matt Tucker and Peter Olah had the opportunity to work with Mike Rosenfield to design an inquiry-based learning program focused on improving student engagement, learning and wellbeing. I had the pleasure of working with Mike in previous years as we set up experiential learning programs together. I feel fortunate that Mike was able to work with our LNSC team to introduce a program that is catered to the needs of our community. Thank you, Mike (pictured in photo below with Peter), for your support, kindness and wisdom. We greatly appreciate it. Thank you to Matt and his team for their work in co-constructing a program which incorporates student voice and agency targeted to our needs. Our students were excited to set off on their first ‘learning through experience’ adventure on 15th February. They will continue to learn aspects of their curriculum through real world experiences throughout the year. Please look out for more updates in future newsletters!
Student Photo Day
Thank you, Lina Alexiou and Harry Deghani, for making coffees/hot chocolates for our Year 12 cohort on Photo Day. Our students felt very special while indulging in beverages and muffins on this special day.
Year 7 BBQ
Thank you to Alycia Benincasa, Chris Danher, LNSC Music team, and all supporting staff and families who attended our Year 7 BBQ. We had a great time getting to know our families with great food and music. Thank you once again to our Primary school principal and leadership teams for attending this special evening. We value our partnership and are excited to continue working with you throughout the year.
Peer Support Training
A group of Year 10 students have been selected to work with Year 7 students to ensure a safe and comfortable transition into a secondary setting. Year 7 students were introduced to their mentors during 2022 Year 6 into 7 Orientation day. Peer support mentors are excited to be working with Year 7 students and participated in their first professional learning in leadership this week. Thank you to Alycia Benincasa who has been overseeing the programs and ensuring that our Year 7 students are being looked after.
Outdoor Learning Environments
Every space is a learning space at LNSC! When the weather holds up, our staff do not hesitate in utilising the sun and fresh air. Here’s a photo I captured of Dorothy Cheale running a Year 7 mathematics class outside of my office last week. Keep up the great learning experiences LNSC!
Athletics Day
A big thank you to Danny Hiscoke for organising Tuesday’s Athletics Day. Staff and students had a great day. Some competed in events (like Tim) while others (like myself) spent the day socialising with friends. We were fortunate with weather also!
