That’s a wrap! Year 10 has come to an end and the excitement for holidays and moving into our senior phase is well and truly here. As we celebrated on Tuesday as a cohort, we sat together viewing a highlight reel of our year. We reminisced on times that we had captured; there was laughter, smiles and pure joy in the room as we took a moment to appreciate the moments that made our year so memorable. Year 10 was a year of reconnection, growth, and purpose. It has been incredible to watch this cohort step outside of their comfort zone and grow their capacity to learn as well as build bonds that will carry them for their next two years.

Additionally, throughout the year students engaged in key topics that assisted in growing their academic wellbeing as well as finding their purpose. This year in Personal development the Year 10 program included the following topics:

  • Careers and life after school
  • Love Bites – healthy and unhealthy relationships
  • P.A.R.T.Y. Program
  • Lead the Way program

Below are reflections from two students who have shared their learnings from the program this year.

The university and TAFE days were particularly intriguing as we learnt more about all the different pathways and degrees that these institutions have on offer to help us pursue our chosen careers. The insight we got into life after school was an exciting prospect that everyone enjoyed.

Love Bites Program: We learnt about unhealthy dynamics of relationships through exploring the different types of abuse such as physical violence. Through this, we gained the knowledge we need to identify situations from which we may need to remove ourselves.

Our PD program in Term 4 was an opportunity to build skills that will become useful when we get to know our ‘little sister’ on a deeper basis over the next two years.  It made us all very excited, so we are now looking forward to becoming a mentor.

As Year 10s we participated in the Prevent Alcohol and Risk-related Trauma in Youth (P.A.R.T.Y.) program. In this program we learnt about the dangers of alcohol and drug-related trauma in youth. This program provided us with useful knowledge about how regularly the occurrence of this issue is seen in our society, and how we can help prevent further occurrence. We partook in many fun activities that had us excited and engaged about learning about dangers of alcohol and drug-related trauma, and provided us with a lot of helpful knowledge that we will continue to use in our daily lives.
