Students help each other succeed at finals

Five of our School of Innovation students attended the Hume Division Swimming Finals which were held last Tuesday at Wodonga. Alick Jarvis, Year 8, represented the college in three individual events and Year 9 students Ella Daldy, Brooke Linnett, Emily Zampaglione and Lila Guthrie competed in the 4 x 50 m freestyle relay.

Alick began his program on fire (rather ironic given that swimming events are conducted in water) with a bronze medal in the 15-year-old male 50 metre freestyle, followed by a fifth placing in butterfly and a fourth placing in backstroke. With their relay being swum as event 91, it was a long and nervous wait for that single lap but our girls used their time to cheer on Alick and

plan for greater representation in 2022. As the starting time approached, their swim order was confirmed and Ella took up her position to face the starter, followed by Lila, Emily and Brooke swimming the final leg. The team swam into fourth place, a very satisfying result that slashed six seconds off their regional qualifying time.

With St Anne’s College still very much in a developmental phase, I’m sure that it is quite overwhelming for our students attending these competitions as pioneers for our school, however, they do so with great eagerness.

Tee-rrific time had at after-school golf

Kialla Golf Club was the venue for the college's two after-school golf sessions held recently. About 30 children from the School of Wonder and School of Innovation enjoyed practising their strokes and honing their skills on the green.

Students serve it up at summer sports

Last Friday the Year 9 students stepped into the intermediate division of the Goulburn Murray Division summer sports day. Teams were entered in volleyball, tennis and table tennis, with competitions taking place in venues at Shepparton, Tatura and Rushworth. Despite not currently having the facilities for training, our students were very competitive and enthusiastic representatives of our college. Winter sports days for School of Innovation students are Thursday, May 20 for the Year 7 and 8 students and Thursday, May 27 for the Year 9 students.

Seven Year 9 girls went to Shepparton Lawn Tennis Club on Friday, March 12 for the Goulburn Murray Division Senior Sports day. Although our girls team was unsuccessful in passing through to the next stage, all involved had a great time, did their best, supported each other, and displayed exceptional sportsmanship!

St Anne's soccer players wanted ASAP

Gallery Image

We have had a fantastic response from St Anne's College children registering to play soccer, so much so that we are looking at creating three Under 8 teams (Year 2), two Under 7 teams (Year 1) and two Under 6 (Foundation) teams. To be able to do this we require a few more players from Years 1 and 2. Parents of children interested in playing who haven't already registered are asked to please email St Anne's College's representative to the Shepparton Junior Soccer Association (SJSA), Peter Miller, at zeuxis916@gmail.com by Monday, March 22, as teams need to be submitted to SJSA next week. The soccer season will begin on April 24. A training day and time is still to be confirmed. A reminder to parents of children who have already registered, that registration fees were due on March 14 via CDFPay.

As we have had so many children register to play, we require more coaches and team managers. All coaches and team managers must have a Working With Children Check. Parents who are interested in these roles, please contact Peter Miller at the above email address as soon as possible.

We are looking forward to a fantastic soccer season!
