YEAR 7 CAMP

In a flurry of forms, planning and packing, our Year 7s were off to camp to Anglesea!

We were lucky to have great weather there, apart from a bit of rain on the final night for the second camp. With goals of making friends, getting to know the teachers, and setting themselves challenges, we were off and running with the first activity straight after lunch.

As always, surfing was a crowd favourite, with many students standing up on a board for the first time. Students were also involved in initiatives games where they needed to work together to problem-solve. Leadership skills were apparent during these sessions, as was some great teamwork.

Students (and some teachers!) tested their nerve on the high ropes and climbing wall, with some great pics of students leaping off tiny platforms after completing the high ropes course 8 metres off the ground. The climbing wall was alive with chicken noises, as those who reached the top got to squeeze the rubber chickens in victory. The low ropes course provided plenty of challenge in balance and teamwork, too. Finally, kayaking was also very popular. We journeyed down the river, capsized, squeezed under bridges and got competitive racing each other. We all had a delicious menu to reinvigorate us, with seconds greatly appreciated.

Each night there were activities, and many students spoke of new friendships created. Students had duties to help out, wake up times that were a little early for some, and events to get ready for. Overall, the camps were just amazing.

A big thank you to all the staff who came to camp with us, to all the staff who covered our classes, and an especially big thank you to the wonderful Peer Support leaders. Their energy and enthusiasm was commendable, and their assistance invaluable. Finally, thanks to all parents for getting their information in, and for helping to get the kids packed and ready to go.

Some student comments and advice to next year’s 7s:

I liked rock climbing because I faced fears.

Give everything a go!

Be brave and don’t think about the worst thing that could happen, think about how proud you will be.

I liked surfing because I finally caught a wave!

The food is really good!

I have so many new and good memories and some new friends.
