SENIOR SCHOOL

Parent Communication – The Diary

The diary is a two-way communication tool between home and school. Students are to take their diaries to all lessons to record homework, assessment dates and reminders.

Our teachers have been involved in talking to and showing students how to successfully use their diary for every subject to track homework, assessment tasks and key dates, communication and/or reminders. As a parent/guardian, you can look at the diary to see any homework, assessment tasks and communication that are relevant to your child and discuss and track their day to day progress, and most importantly celebrate their organisational skills.

Parent Communication – BSC Guide for Parents and Students Senior School

To assist all parents and students with some of the administrative requirements relating to Senior School including attendance, assessment, Special Provision and other issues, I would like everyone to take the time to read through the Senior School Guide for Students and Parents. You may find it useful to print and keep a copy for your reference during the year. A copy can also be found on COMPASS/School Documentation/Senior School. Other important information relating to the Senior School and associated policies can also be found here.

Elevate Sessions for Students

Since the beginning of term all senior school students have been involved in Elevate presentations. The presentations have been delivered by external presenters who are recent graduates and who achieved outstanding results in their own VCE studies.

Year 12 students – Ace Your Exams-a session around how to best prepare for the final year external examinations to achieve the best results. This was held at the Year 12 Camp in February

Year 11 students – Study Skills: Student Elevation- A session around setting goals and creating a study plan to achieve those goals. This will held during a PEP session in mid February.

Year 10 Students – Time Management- How to manage your time effectively and beat procrastination. This was held during the PEP session last week.

Follow up work with the students is being conducted in PEP sessions during this term.

Elevate Sessions for Parents

You may recall that parents of Brighton Secondary College have exclusive access to Elevate Education’s Parent Webinar Series for Term 1, 2021.  Many of you also took advantage of sessions during 2020. These sessions are designed specifically for parents and support the Elevate sessions that Brighton Secondary Colleges delivers to students. The recent parent webinar was on Time Management - how to end the battle over homework deadlines, study schedules and prioritisation. It aired live on Wednesday 24th February. Many parents participated in the session but if you missed it or wish to watch it again you can access the replay here.

Additionally, the next webinar is on Tech Devices - setting boundaries and promoting self-regulation with teens. The webinar will help to answer your questions around 'how much screen-time is too much", how to create positive habit-loops with your child, and what apps and technology you can use to help your child, rather than hinder them. You can register for that event here.
