Physical Education Focus

Physical Education at FPS

Foundation

The start of the year is such a wonderful time in PE and sport for everyone, and none more so than for the new Foundations children. These students have settled into school beautifully and are playing a variety of new games focused on move around safely, taking turns and playing fairly. Their enthusiasm and engagement in games has been incredible.

Year 1 & Year 2

Students have been playing games and discussing how to remain in the ‘Green Zone’ during PE. This can be a very difficult task with all the noise, movement and excitement that comes with playing games. Despite the challenges, they have demonstrated fabulous awareness of emotions and have remained calm and ready to learn throughout.

Year 3 & Year 4

Students have been orienteering in preparation for the House Cross Country, which takes place in term two. We have explored that to run long distances you need to slow down and run at a slower speed. The students have been eagerly running around the school following a map to find the hidden words which reveal the secret message each week.

Year 5 & Year 6

Students have been looking at ways to improve their teamwork and passing skills. They have been focussing on creating space, passing to the open player, and slowing down to ensure that more passes are successfully caught by their teammates. Year 6 have also had their first taste of interschool sports with the summer sports roster beginning in this term. It has been amazing to watch how all students have played and I am so impressed with the values and sportsmanship that the FPS children demonstrate during these games.

Sports Report

The start of the year is a busy time for swimming and this year has been no exception. Due to the lack of a School Swimming Carnival in 2020, we were unable to select our district swimmers last year. Instead, some Year 4 – 6 students took part in swimming trials to see who would represent FPS at the district carnival. Thank you to all those students who put up their hand and had a go in these trials. Subsequent District, Division and Region events have been held and congratulations to all those students who represented Fairfield PS at one or more of these carnivals.
