Principal's Report

Welcome Picnic

We couldn’t have asked for better weather as we hosted our rearranged Welcome Picnic last Friday. The sunshine was in fine form, as was our parent band ‘Double Denim’, who started their set with an original version of ‘Hey Mona’, followed by a number of classics that had people up on their feet.

Thank you to:

  • Volunteers who helped with the barbeque, including the setting and packing up.
  • Double Denim – this was the first time that we have had live music at one of our picnics, and it definitely added to the atmosphere.
  • Families, for your care of the school grounds during the event.

At FPS, we embrace opportunities to bring our community together, as we see how much fun and enjoyment this can bring to students and families – and last Friday there was fun and enjoyment in abundance.

The community events don’t stop there. Next Friday 26 March we will host our Foundation Social Evening. I’m looking forward to catching up with Foundation families at this event.

Open Afternoon at Wingrove St Campus

Another event that we were able to rearrange recently was the WSC Open Afternoon. At last, we were able to invite our community to visit this wonderful building. We had many families walk through, complimenting the design and layout of the space. We hope that there will be many more future opportunities for families to visit our new campus.

Parent Payments

There have been some questions from parents about when school fees are due. The process this year was more complicated than normal, as we had families who paid their Excursion Levy in 2020, which was not spent, due to COVID. A number of families were therefore in credit for 2021 school fees.

What you need to know:

  • Essential Fees (including the Excursion Levy) are due by the end of term two – Friday 25 June. Payment can be made any time between now and 25 June via Compass, or at the school office.
  • Voluntary Contributions can be made at any time. Please note that Building and Library contributions are tax deductible.

Thank you to families that have made these payments. Please ask at the office if you have any questions.

Future Building Projects

Whilst we see the exciting daily progress of the Fig Tree Garden, there are a couple of other building projects to look forward to this year.

We are planning to have the next stage in the school fence upgrade during the term one holidays. These works will see the replacement of old fencing along Wingrove St, with a new gate installed next to the gym building, to hopefully connect to a new pedestrian crossing. These works are being paid for by parent contributions to our Building Fund.

You may have read in an earlier newsletter that School Council approved the installation of a solar power system on the roof of the gym building (80.52kWp PV System) at the cost of $76,000. This works is scheduled to occur during the term two holidays and is being paid for by fundraising money.

2021 School Council & Annual General Meeting

New School Councillors

The 2021 School Council membership has been confirmed; Allison O’Connell, Reagan Richards and Cara Rodriguez were elected as new councillors; Sarah Glass and Andrew Vance were re-elected for a second term; Olivia Li was elected as a staff representative.

In the next newsletter, we will list all of the School Council members, and their roles – this will be determined at next week’s meeting.

Prue Middleton (staff representative) and Nathan Smeaton (Treasurer) are ending their time on School Council this month. We thank Prue for her involvement and contributions. We thank Nathan for his financial support and skillset in his role as Treasurer.

You’re invited – Annual General Meeting

Next Monday 22 March, we will hold our Annual General Meeting at 6pm in the Meeting Room – just around the corner from the Langridge St Office.

All community members are welcome to attend as I report the school’s performance during the last 12 months. This report will be placed on the school’s website, once approved by School Council.

Dental Van Visit – This Week

From Wednesday to Friday of this week, the dental van will be located on the grounds of FPS. All students who have returned the consent form will visit. If you are interested in your child seeing the dentist, forms will still be accepted up to Wednesday. These can be collected at either school office.

OSHClub – Gym Foyer

When OSHClub is running their before/after school programs in the gym and gym foyer, we ask that adults and students do not enter this space, unless booked in to this service.

For students participating in Shooters Basketball, please access the gym directly – via the Fairfield Road entrance. Students should not be in the gym prior to 5:30pm (Monday – Thursday) when the sessions commence.

Wishing everyone a great week.
