I would like to take this opportunity to thank families for so diligently settling their 2021 School Contributions and for so many of you generously including the voluntary contributions. Like all State schools the majority of our funding is received by the government through our Student Resource Package. All monies we collect from families also supports our budgets and are spent on resources, equipment and activities to ensure we are able to offer the very best teaching and learning for all students and to support those who may need a little more assistance from time to time.

One of the lessons reinforced over recent months is that acts of kindness, small and large are very much appreciated and do make a difference.

HOUSE SWIMMING CARNIVAL

Our House Swimming Carnival was finally held yesterday. With our local Carnegie Pool closed, Mr Pollard and Mr O’Brien spent a great deal of time organising this much anticipated event and a terrific carnival was held at the Harold Holt Swim Centre, in Malvern. On the day students eagerly participated to the best of their ability and cheered on another on. All should be congratulated for their efforts.

On Thursday 4th and Monday 15th March respectively the District and Division competitions will be held. A small number of students will keenly represent Carnegie Primary School. We wish them all the best and we will share results at a later date.

VALUING OUR STATE SCHOOLS

As I sit and write this fortnight’s newsletter it seems hard to believe we are half way through term one. Like all weeks, CPS is a buzzing place with much happening each and every day in our classrooms and playgrounds. A focus in all classrooms over the first few weeks has been the establishment of a positive, engaging learning environment where each child feels valued. I often reflect on the privileged position I hold in being the principal of CPS. My staff are always keen to grow and learn as educators being committed to ensuring the best outcomes for our students. Staff work tirelessly individually and in teams to know all students well and provide a comprehensive, engaging, curriculum.

Negotiations between the State government and Australian Education Union are underway to formulate the next EBA. At this time it is paramount we remain committed to the provision of high quality state education. Valuing the work of teachers and support staff and acknowledging their efforts throughout the school day and beyond is vital. Their work allows our students to reach their potential, socially, emotionally and academically as well as instilling a passion for life- long learners. We also need to value the broader teaching profession as a whole so passionate, capable young people choose teaching in our state schools as a career.
