PRODUCTION

This year’s production is called “The Generation Gap”. It tells the story of one family that is struggling to disconnect from technology and connect with each other. We learn early on that an obvious generation gap exists between the different generations. Through storytelling and spending some quality time with their grandparents, the children rediscover their connection with their grandparents, parents and each other. Their relationship grows as they tell stories and discover that underneath all the technology and jargon, they all want the same thing – to be valued, appreciated and loved.

This year, there will be some differences in how we will organise and stage our production.

  • We will be performing at the Mahon Theatre at AQUINAS (this is dependent on COVID restrictions). Our back up plan (if we are unable to have an audience) is to still allow the children to perform on the stage and engage the services of a film crew/production company instead.
  • We will have ONE main cast instead of two.
  • All children will perform on the same night – no more splitting the school in half!
  • There will be NO SHARING OF COSTUMES and limited costume changes during the show.
  • As the theatre is smaller than Yarra Valley Grammar AND depending on COVID restrictions, we will most likely offer two evenings shows and potentially a matinee performance for those that can attend during the day.
  • We will use GRPS as a staging area/change rooms and students will be escorted across the road, to the theatre prior to their performance and returned to GRPS after their item.
  • Parents can then pick up their children from their own classrooms after the show, significantly reducing the congestion and wait times for collecting the children after the show.
  • We will endeavour to live stream the performance back to school, so the children can watch the show from the whiteboards/TVs in their classrooms during the evening and matinee performances.

Auditions

This week, students in years 5 and 6 were given the opportunity to audition for a main role in this year's production. We were totally blown away by the number of children who were willing to step outside of their comfort zone and attend the auditions.

Design Competition

Over the past two weeks, students have been encouraged to design a logo or draw a picture that could be used to advertise this year's production. Entries close on Friday 5th March. Please submit your drawing to the main office, your classroom teacher or Mrs Murray.
