SUB COMMITTEE MEETING

Our first Sustainability Sub Committee meeting will be held on Tuesday 9th March at 4pm.

Thank you to those who have shown interest in attending. We will be discussing and completing the School Environment Management Plan (SEMP) to present to School Council.

The SEMP includes a whole school vision as to how we will tackle climate change, enhance our biodiversity as well as reducing our waste, water and energy consumption.

It is not too late to come and support the school become more environmentally friendly and gain ResourceSmart Schools certification.

NUDE FOOD

It is great to see so many rubbish free lunch boxes recently.

Congratulations to the nude food champions. I wonder which class will win the bin trophy next.

Remember if your class has the highest nude food champions for the term, you will ride the smoothie bike and make yourself a delicious smoothie on the last day of the term!

Reducing packaging has important environmental benefits while saving our school money on waste disposal.

Take a look at these great examples…

TERRACYCLE

Please keep sending in your plastic bottle tops, bread tags, textas/pens that do not work, used toothbrushes and empty toothpaste tubes.

Each item raises money for the school. The waste will be collected and recycled instead of just thrown into Landfill. A bin is located in each learning space. If you have large bags of these items please send directly to Allison in the Foundation space.

EARTH HOUR

Earth Hour encourages people everywhere to make the #SwitchforNature to support Australia’s switch to a renewables-based economy. Simple switches you make in your daily life can help our planet. You could:

- Switch to solar power

- Switch your ride

- Or just #SwitchOff your lights for Earth Hour to show your support for Australia becoming a renewables powerhouse.

SKiPPS will host our very own Earth Hour where we will switch off all our lights, Smartboards and electronic devices on Friday 26th March. We also encourage you to ride, scoot or skate on that day. The Year 5/6s are on camp but will run their own Earth Hour while away.

Members of the Green Team have created reminder signs to switch of lights when leaving rooms. Look out for some posters around the school in your classroom to promote Earth Hour!

Sign up to register and switch off Saturday 27th March at https://www.earthhour.org.au/  and be a part of the global movement making the #SwitchforNature
