Leadership @ MPS

Grade 6 School Leaders

We are so very proud of all of our Grade 6 students who applied for leadership positions this year. We read many outstanding applications and were very impressed with the speeches that were delivered and the response of students in an interview setting. Our students showed great creativity and passion throughout the process and demonstrated excitement, resilience and joy upon hearing the names of the successful applicants. Congratulations to our elected school leaders! We are looking forward to seeing what you will do this year! Read on to discover more about our leaders...

Superstar Swimmers

What a fantastic and busy week it has been for our District & Division Swimming Representatives! Last Wednesday the 24th of February, 26 students travelled to Diamond Creek Outdoor to compete against 6 other schools! We finished in 4th place on 135 points, our best ever finish!

9 students then travelled to Northcote Aquatic centre only 5 days later to compete against schools all across the Nillumbik division! This was the most representatives we have ever had and the first time we have had not only 1 relay team, but 2! They all did Montmorency Primary very proud and gave it their all!

A big congratulations to all of our representatives and good luck to Tess Izard, competing in Regionals on the 16th of March! Go get ‘em Tess!    (Coach Josh)

Upcoming Events

Last week a small group of parents met to discuss the upcoming community and fundraising events for 2021. This year we are doing things a little bit differently to share the load and invite parents and carers to contribute time where they can. Rather than having a formal committee, we will be asking for volunteers who are able to give some of their time to help with an event. This means that a lot of the behind-the-scenes organisation can be done through the school and school council, giving parents the chance to simply pop in for an hour or two to help with a sausage sizzle, wrap some hampers, etc. We have heard your requests for more opportunities to be involved, and we are hoping that by reducing the formality and time commitment, our parents will be able to commit to assisting at these events.

We will also continue to arrange social events for parents only as we know the importance of connection and familiarity among our families. We have already had some great suggestions, such as another floral arrangement/terrarium building night and a ballroom dancing night. If you have a great idea, feel free to let us know!

Upcoming events for this term include the following:

Grade 5/6 PARENTS Puberty Education Evening

Thursday 11th March - at 7:00pm in the hall

Working Bee

Sunday 21st March 8am onwards

Please come along, BYO gardening tools, gloves etc and assist with our grounds maintenance!

Bunnings Sausage Sizzle

Saturday 27th March

A callout for volunteers has already been posted on Compass. If you would like to get involved, please sign up using the Google Doc link, or at the office.

Easter Raffle

End of Term 1

We will be calling for Easter product donations and help to wrap hampers closer to the end of term. Ticket sales will conclude ahead of the raffle draw on the final day of Term 1 at the Easter Hat Parade.

Family Movie Night

BIG NEWS!!!  After many years of discussion in our fundraising meeting, we are thrilled to announce that we will be holding our first Family Movie Night! This event will be held on our school oval with a giant inflatable screen. Families will be able to purchase tickets, bring a picnic blanket and enjoy watching a movie after sunset! We will be looking for helpers on the night to assist with a sausage sizzle and popcorn and snack sales. A call out will be shared via Compass closer to the time.

SAVE THE DATE: Family Movie Night - April 23rd, 2021

Foundation 2022 Enrolments - Due now!

As you may have noticed by the giant sign at the front of our school, it is school tour season! We have had many families through the school already and we have continued to see strong interest in joining the MPS community. We urge any families who have younger siblings that wish to enrol for 2022 to enrol as soon as possible. This helps to secure enrolments not only for our current families but for those who wish  to enrol their child at our school. We have already received quite a number of enrolments and all forms are due by the end of April.

Parent/Teacher Interviews

This term we will be holding Parent/Teacher Interviews over two days to discuss your child's learning progress throughout Term 1. This is part of our regular reporting cycle, giving teachers and parents the opportunity to meet face-to-face. Bookings can be made via Compass from 9am on Tuesday 16th March and will close at 12pm on Monday 22nd March.

The meetings will run for 15 minutes each in the time periods below:

Tuesday 23rd March 12:30pm-5pm

Thursday 25th March 3:45pm-7pm

Please see our 'Important Dates' page for a full overview of the rest of the term.
