VOLLEYBALL

YEAR 7 & 8 VOLLEYBALL
On Friday 26th, students from Yr 7 and 8 headed off to Splash at Leongatha for the South Gippsland Volleyball round robin.
The Yr 8 boys only had one official game to play. They did this early on in the day and after a slow start they worked their way into the game and really powered over their opposition to win comfortably. They will now go onto represent the division at regional level. Awesome work boys. Team members included; Declan Beech, Tommy Burgees, Nathan Halliday, Dylan Mckean, Colby Rumbold, Tom Sherar, Bodhi Sinclair Churchill, Riley Twite, Tanner Walker and Ryan Zuidema.
The Yr 8 girls had a much stronger level of competition, with 5 teams entered. Throughout the day their skill level progressed and they played in some extremely close games, winning some and losing others. While not the most successful team on the day the girls demonstrated outstanding teamwork and spirit. Many thanks to Mr Churchill for coaching them. Team members included; Charlotte Anthony, Hailey Belvedere, Lily Canavan, Oliviah Joyce, Jennie Saunders, Caitlin Ware and Kiera Witton.
The mixed Yr 7 team played 3 games over the day. Coming together for their first taste of secondary school sport, the team demonstrated all the things they had been working on in training over the last few weeks. The team won their first two games and it all came down to their third and final game. With increasing confidence, they proved too strong for the Wonthaggi boys winning both sets. Congratulations to all team members who will also go on to represent the division and play at regional level. Team members included; Bella-Cruize Appleman, Molly Boulter, Natalie Churchill, Max Fowles, Jayden Griffin-Currie, Georgia Kyle and Jamie-Lee Mahanga.
INTERMEDIATE AND SENIOR VOLLEYBALL
The going was tough, as both the Wonthaggi and Leongatha teams in these age groups were organised and communicated with one another well. By the third sets of each, the teams were starting to orient themselves to the rules and the rhythm of the game. Mr Cronin arrived during these first games and was able to provide proper strategy to the players, beyond Ms Kennedy's expert "Have fun and cheer each other even when you lose the ball", in the pre-game huddles.
The second games rolled on, to see the Intermediate Girls and Senior Boys play Leongatha and Mary MacKillop, respectively. Not fazed by having a former KSC student on the other side of the net, the Int Girls began with self-doubt and some courageous moments saw the opposition fumble and watch the ball land on the wrong side of the net, uncontested. Skyla Bailey and Brianna Ware were possibly the most surprised by their natural talent for serving the ball with enough determination that forced errors from the Leongatha girls. The Senior Boys did themselves proud against the experienced MMC team, by working in effective strategy delivered by Mr Cronin; Fin found his inner spike and the setting form kicked in by the second set. Travis Hall and Joel Cuman were noteworthy for their sporting attitudes and quick reflexes on court.
Our Senior Girls acquitted themselves beautifully with increasing communication and commitment to backing one another up on the court. Their form was so strong that we thought they had won the game, but a count back of points, after a tie saw the MMC girls take away the honours. The KSC Senior Girls caught the attention of the other schools' coaches and Caitlyn Cameron was singled out for special mention to Coach Kennedy by a MMC staff member, when the day was over for KSC's teams. The Intermediate Boys brought enthusiasm to the court and several moments of exciting volleys, but ultimately lost to their opponents after giving them a run for their money.
Thanks to the students in these teams for their cooperation and effort to represent Korumburra Secondary College with pride!
