SCHOOL LEADERSHIP MESSAGE

PRINCIPAL'S REPORT
Staff Professional Development Day
On Friday the 5th March staff undertook PD on the Understanding by Design (UBD) model. On arrival at KSC three years ago, I was impressed with the level of curriculum documentation at the school. The UBD model has developed over several years at the College, and it was opportune to revisit this process on Friday to further develop our units of work/programs for students. One of the big ideas of the UBD model is for teachers to understand the “transfer goal” and be able to explain to students how the big idea of the unit will help them study further and support them in life beyond school.
Staff also worked on the use of feedback, and were part of a presentation delivered by Ms Creaser on behalf of the Student Leadership Group (now called SALT). Students have requested ‘feedback weeks’ where teachers ask them questions about the learning in class and they provide feedback to the teacher. The first feedback week, is next week. Integration Staff did a number of online courses designed to help them support students in the classroom.

How we communicate and how to communicate with KSC
There are a number of ways we share information and inform students and parents about upcoming events and many other things:
- Via our newsletter (which you are reading now!)
- Via Compass https://korumburrasc-vic.compass.education (If you do not have access to Compass and/or have forgotten your log in details, please ring us for this information.
- Via our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/korumburrasc/
- Via our Website http://www.korumburrasc.vic.edu.au/wordpress/# (Our website has great information and has been especially valuable during remote learning periods where it outlines how to get onto Teams, access Compass and so on.
- Instagram (We usually use Instagram to celebrate everyday student life, but the Canteen also has an Instagram account and you can see the great specials they have on this account.)
- With students, we also use Microsoft Teams to send messages and answer queries from students.
There are several ways, our community can contact us:
- By phone (5655 1566)
- By email, through Compass you can identify the teacher you want to communicate with and email them directly
- Via a message through our Facebook page. (Bear in mind that although we generally try and keep an eye on our page, we cannot guarantee that we will see your message out of hours.)
- Through the designated parent email address (we have used this extensively through Remote Learning. It is especially helpful when we are not onsite. It’s a great way to contact us if you are unsure who you need to speak to as your query can then be directed to the best possible person) 7960-parent-support@schools.vic.edu.au
- You can also visit the general office during the school day
Lastly, in the event of another lockdown this year, it is particularly important that you know where to look for information and that we also have your correct contact details. Please let us know if your contact details have changed and/or you are unsure whether we have your correct details.
